Humans were made to work. If you don't work, you will be depressed. Even if you have a ton of $. Don't be fooled and get jealous by the people who have $ and never work. They will always project an image of a happier life.

There are many ways to solve problems. If people have $, they solve problems by throwing $ at it. After some time and many bs things that happens, this is absolutely depressing.

Because they're mindful that being rich and a hedonist out of boredom is a trap.

>> No.56252693

because "happy" as a concept doesn't really mean anything. It's just a lofty goal to "be fulfilled" one day without any idea of what it means when you actually get there

then sooner you abandon the desire to be happy the sooner you'll actually be generally happy and motivated to do what you wanna do

>> No.56252716

I think the answer is twofold, for me.
>vacations when you want
>contribute to community/higher goals and mission
For example if I was absolutely loaded, I would build a cathedral (once after generational wealth was taken care of, or at least enough to be secure in my children's and grandchildren's futures). If anything, if I were to stop working to make money because I have so much of it, I would be working to help others. Real life RPG quests. Although, working in a meaningful way would probably do this any way.

I would also be free to pursue my interests and hobbies and would continually take up different arts such as the trumpet, or wood carving. I would never run out of things to pursue, ever. Would also pour money into having fun like surfing/wind surfing/wakeboarding etc.

You're missing the point. If say you solve the problem of $, you definitely should not sit there and do shit everyday.

Go out there and learn new skills. Don't be that loser that just looks for what new expensive places to eat out everyday. Play video games until you pass out.

It takes work to work on your golf swing or become a good painter.

Volunteering is technically like wageslaving when you have $ except you can meet some quality people.

You're talking from a perspective that you wage slave and get stuck there and not gradually move up.

>> that is it.
Waging makes sense for a person at one point in their lives, you are supposed to grow out of it and find something new. Your priorities change, once you get some wins under your belt.
The problem with most people is that they:

>> Don't think for themselves
>> fall for marketing
>> rather take no decision than fail and learn.

I see so much spiritually poor people in their late 30's I find it laughable. I don't mean religion, to be curious and spend your time just interacting with world.
Living frugally is easy, when your entire purpose and self worth don't come from money. If you are fighting to buy shit to FEEL GOOD.
YOU ARE DOING it WRONG.

I wouldn't fully rule out waging. There are instances where, if waging aligns with a spiritual depth that is satisfying to the individual, that can be a great way to live life humbly and happily. The best way to judge is by the fruits; if they grow as an individual over time and iterate into better selves, then it is a healthy relationship. If not, then it is stagnant or possibly even unhealthy, and they should seek a different engagement if possible or find ways to change it up over time.

That being said, fully agree that your purpose and self-worth don't come from money. If that is the only thing driving you, then you'll at best win a numbers game at the cost of everything else; worst case, you lose it all. If you're shrewd with it, however, your investments will bear good fruit.

That in itself is a huge problem, because so many people are doing it wrong. There is so much hatred that can come from "good-natured" hearts that weigh themselves, lesser rules, or traditions over the fundamentals. It creates new victims from those who were trying hard but simply saw things from a poor or malformed perspective. I won't presume or pry. Even I continue to have my own difficulties and doubts from time to time (I am human), but the least I can do is try, keep knocking, and Seek the right things. There are TONS of poorly communicated, poorly translated, and horrible acts that were done in the name of God or because the Bible "said so" in general, so I'm winging it pretty hard. I'm resorting back to a circle of stones and following the fundamental rules first, but also trying to keep as open of a mind as I can and humbling myself as best as I can. Really, the only thing I got going for me is that He is far greater than I am and might still love me even with all the dung I've flung His way already... But if it finally warmed my heart enough to give a homeless vet near me the cash I had on hand, maybe that's all the change in the world we needed.

when i was growing up, my dad was a paramedic and my family was pretty broke, i remember my parents fighting about bills pretty often until he got his first office job around the time i went into high school. the company he helped build got to be pretty successful but he never got paid well until the last 10 years or so, and he only really became rich-ish (1mm+ net worth including house and cars) in the last 3 or 4 years as he helped negotiate a merger with a competitor which switched his compensation for the better

anyway the reason i'm blogposting is, i noticed something weird happening as he transitioned from middle class to moderate wealth. he was always an extremely compassionate and kind person growing up and despite enjoying nicer things (he's always liked nice cars, nice clothes, luxury travel) these were more details instead of all-consuming passions.

but in the last decade and especially the last 5 years, he's turned into a different person! it seems like the only topic that interests him is things he can buy or experiences he can pay for. the most interested i ever see him is when he's talking about different brands of clothing or cars or electronics, it's just weird. this is a guy who raised me to consider all the different viewpoints in an issue and to try and arrive at the truth through critical thinking, he'd give me each week's time and newsweek magazines and then ask me about my opinions on the issues they covered. and now he seems almost entirely consumed by...things. it's uncanny.

and he went cold about people too. he's always been a people person and loves talking to strangers, including people from all walks of life. at the end of every flight or bus ride he'd know their entire life story. now he's rude, especially to people he sees as beneath him.

i think money's an addiction, and addictions change you, they rewire your brain and change your perception of yourself. they also steal your joy.

Pretty easy answer. Money, especially the ability to make large amounts of money, isolates you from more and more of the population as your wealth grows. People are generally ruinous pains in the ass and wealth gives you a crystal clear glimpse into this aspect of them. You end up in a dilemma where you can either walk away from your financial operations to hang around people that are functionally niggers, people you may as well be a space alien to (and give them time, they’ll resent you for being better) or you can just keep working to make more money and maybe meet contacts you actually want to associate with.

Entirely correct. The (you)s you got are hilarious. Grade A coping because they're unable to self actualize.
I admit it took me way too long to realize this. Religious people are very often not religious because of retardation, but because they have nothing left. The options in their mind are god, or rope. This isn't an easily fixable thing. You either naturally self actualize from the beginning, and immediately reject faith as fucking bologna the second you start thinking for yourself, or you get trapped inside the cope cycle. The latter end up wasting massive amounts of effort on nonsense which doesn't progress them towards a real goal. The sunk cost, lack of believed alternative, and horror of being fully in control of their life, they add up to a massive emotional reaction towards any contradiction. It's best to not bother. Those people are like homeless addicts begging for a buck. Don't do as they ask, and don't tell them they're wrong. Just ignore their existence. They're irrelevant.

Interesting. I don't think its just money, society in general has become fucked beyond recognition over the last 30 years, but I kind of agree with your conclusion. Money does have very real addictive qualities about it, and studies have shown that after a certain point which isn't even that much, it won't make you happier on average. There is something inherently sick with someone becoming obsessed with money and just having more things. It just doesn't seem compatible with a healthy mind.
