banks will likely each have their own chains and assets they control. in order to interact with other banks, exchanges, real world data, etc. they will need to pay gas fees to nodes. if they pay with link it will be cheaper. if they pay in any other asset it will be converted to link (for an additional fee). are they REQUIRED to purchase link to pay the gas fees to interact with other chains? no. is it more cost effective? yes. and that's just for the ability to interact with other chains. between the staking lockups for security and other paid features they offer the idea that because banks will have their own chains therefore token not needed is laughable.
