Kek, I saw that because I'm shorting meta and was shocked too, I think that's a sign of how things are just broken so I know what you're saying. This crabbing is dysfunctional and it will break at some point. The yield curve is basically the whole story now.

The "evidence" posted
https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2023-china-ev-graveyards/
>This time, the cars were likely deserted after the ride-hailing companies that owned them failed, or because they were about to become obsolete as automakers rolled out EV after EV with better features and longer driving ranges. They’re a striking representation of the excess and waste that can happen when capital floods into a burgeoning industry, and perhaps also an odd monument to the seismic progress in electric transportation over the last few years.
>Those vehicles were mostly bought by ride-hailing companies that leased them to drivers. “At the beginning of China’s EV market, delivery numbers were driven by car-sharing fleets,” said Young Huang, a senior analyst with JSC Automotive, a consultancy with offices in Shanghai and Stuttgart. “Only a few private customers chose to buy them.”
I don't expect amerisharts to be smart but come on. As the guys says in the video, those are to a large part remnants of failed companies and aren't BYD's problem. Or they are cars that are outdated. And a huge part are non-chinese cars.

Several suppliers I know (coal mining companies) have had their metcoal (metallurgical coal) and bluegem coal (high silicon content for chips) and even fines are in great demand and price. BTU is probably fine too, but there are a few issues:
It's a bit of a meme so it gets random volatility, valuation tends to be a bit higher, it's a mixed producer of met/thermal with some weird contracts, and management has made some questionable decisions.
I feel like BTU makes more sense as a swing trade than a confident hold. BTU is still stuck in the same range since 2022 while other coal stocks break new highs, propelled by buybacks. Perhaps the future will be different, but it's not like BTU is any cheaper at today's multiples vs other stocks anyway.
At least that's my understanding of the situation with BTU.

BUDDY, have you looked at the dollar??
>pic related
lmao
disappointed also that 2 people mentioned rates, but didn't mention that it is because of US yields moving higher relative to foreign that dollar has appreciated so much - foreign CBs have waved white flag prioritizing economy over inflation higher for shorter, Fed has not higher for longer = dollar appreciation relative to white flag currencies
Literally anyone reading this thread who wouldn't immediately answer themselves

they're all related, all part of the same picture
US rates up + EU rates down = dollar up
US economy up + EU economy down = dollar up
but dollar move has most direct impact on trade of commodities, especially commodity that is literally a hedge to the dollar, an alternative currency to the dollar (gold)
if both EU and US are raising rates same time, the DXY correlation gets muddied if that makes sense - but it still there and the prevailing one
I don't disagree that higher real rates offering yield become more attractive
