The short answer is that it depends of morale. If it's high then the taiwanese can make the place hell on earth because Taiwan is basically all moutains and forests which would make it very easy to host an insurgency/guerilla for a prolonged amount of time.

They're the most heavily armed population in history and half of the Military itself would crumble under such duress. Yup, the people of Taiwan don't hate China like the brainwashed cattle of the USA that thinks they steal organs and genocide Muslims, because some cult said they did. Their economy is also heavily inter-dependent.
I don't think China is even in a rush for full reunification, they can wait it out a few years as the USA crumbles as a global power. China will beat the USA without firing a bullet.
