Anybody else here work for amazon? There is something real weird about it like. I have done other jobs, food delivery, grocery shopping. Amazon is technically better than them, paying more, but... I have a belief after watching two of my co-workers just go fucking nuts, one of them I heard is in a facility now. I think this job making you go mentally insane working it. I can't explain why, because those other jobs are shit but I did them no problem. Amazon though something isnt right.. I wanted to check if anyone on /biz/ works there too and has seen shit like that or if I'm just tripping.

I know exactly what you're saying. I've done a number of low skill wagie jobs, and Amazon is technically less shitty than most of them.

But there's just no way to not lose your mind. The whole thing is just uncanny. It's like the company is not run by actual humans. Every little thing is determined by some backend software. It's like being literally in the matrix.

Yeah I have worked at a fc back when they capped people at 14/hr. Did nights for2 yrs and days 8 months. Saw people go insane. One woman filmed her suicide before getting hit by a train. People constantly fighting with each other, even in friendly ways. Can't explain why but the environment was toxic, favoritism was rampant and the managements sheer disregard for workers probably contributed to mental instability. Didn't help you were stuck in a giant concrete box with no windows or air conditioning in the summer.

its particularly mind blowing because most of those people even the management are not the brightest folks. semi-well trained robots at best

>I think Amazon even admits you're not supposed to work there for a long time and that they expect huge turnover. They pay you well until you burn out and quit.
The film and CG industry is like that too. I fucking left after I saved a bit because of pandemic. You don't get paid a lot, I was capped at $60k unless you were lead, and I worked long thankless hours because a producer wants the CGI to be done quick. Once a studio contract is done, you were let go to fend for yourself, then you competing against new hired grads that probably learned new software. CGI/Games studios prey on bright eyed new graduates to fulfill roles, their leads end up becoming a second teacher as a role because they may really not know what their doing but the basics. But we need the bodies because the turnover was insane. Some stick around because they have no other skillset, someone just leave the industry all together, and some become crafty and make CGI porn on Patreon. When I worked in the industry, I could never enjoy playing games or watching CGI movies. Thankfully, I made $500k in 2021 due to the crypto bullrun. Currently unemployed and Im interest in doing the pilot program "zero to hero" to fly planes and shit.

This is the issue that creates the most mental health problems in any job or career. We are basically plants with complex emotions. We need sunlight and a connection to the outdoors. We can survive in a concrete hellhole, but not without cost. I could create a beautiful, comfortable, worker centric distribution center that people enjoy working at, but it would not pump out the raw metrics that churning through bodies and souls like uncaring matrix machines can.

Listen only to the sound of my voice. Let your mind relax. Let your thoughts drift. Let the bad memories fade. Let peace be upon you. Surrender yourself to your dreams. Let them wash over you like the gentle waves of the bluest ocean. Let them envelop you. Comfort you.

Imagine somewhere calm. Imagine somewhere safe. Imagine yourself in a frozen forest. You're standing in a clearing. Trees around you so tall, they touch the sky. Pure white snowflakes fall all around. You can feel them melt on your skin. You are not cold. It cannot overcome the warmth of your beating heart. Can you hear it? You only have to listen.

It's always the people that drink the kool-aid and think they are special and smart and deserve promotions and then suddenly realize they are not special and they are just another employee like the others. It's people with undeserved egos getting hit by the reality that they're just another unskilled peasant that drives them mad.
People like me who just clock in -> work -> clock out, do the bare minumum to keep supervisors happy do just fine. I worked there for 11 months, icqa, made it to learning ambassador. I did exactly what they wanted, I did a good job and then quit.

People loved me at the job because I actually did the job and all that shit but it was driving me insane actually working there. I was so tired and my body was aching at 30+ years old so I quit. I met all the metrics, exceeded them really, and I definitely was in the running to get promoted but I never participated in their Amazon clubs and other stuff. I did win some giveaways tho.

I also have like, 15 pecy pins. Gonna save them and hope they increase in value like some sort of morbid Pokemon cards

I worked at amazon for one year, before rona chan hit. I hated that place; I talked to H3H3 enjoyers, bartenders that had room mates who pegged/trooned their ex bf's out, so many crazy normies I've encountered working there. When rona chan finally hit; I dawned the tyvek suit, isreali gas mask and a black lab coat with the umbrella corp logo as a joke/paranoia of chinks. Gave security a hard time for trying to IR forehead temp a guy a with a gas mask (Don't break the seal!). Eventually they had a app that let you clock in and out because of rona chan, I stole many of hours lining up another job before getting fired for wage theft. That part was chill; get tired, clock out at midnight, go home and get stoned and get to go normal people shopping in the morning at 8am. My high school buddy, who got me the job, still worked there for a bit before getting fired for wage theft also ended up telling me some guy crashed his car through the glass door front entry to the warehouse.

I'm not really surprised from this event due to HR's orientation going over "What anon should do in a active shooter situation?" That place was hell with robot beeps. Security only existed to stop you from stealing not to protect the workers plus no phone policy for lower wagies. Eventually I got my BS Chem degree through another company but it didn't pay enough, so I ended up freelancing construction/remodel/sunroom/window/finish gigs. Now I can say I'm debating starting an LLC, making money off of casting metals and gardening as a side hustle for when the dollar kicks into hyperinflation. Tbh I love ordering from Amazon from a business perspective, but it's soul crushing work. It's the kind of work meant for communists who can't appreciate the beautiful fairytale dream of a free market. I hope every communist experiences working at Amazon. It taught me that there are two types of hard labor; psychological and physical. Yet that is what a job should be, a learning experience.

Amazon is basically you being turned into a literal cog in the machine. Everything from the top down is designed to be as dehumanizing as physically possible. Its the kind of job you get if you really need cash yesterday to hold you on until you get something else. Even if you go beyond the 21st century equivalent of the polluted, smog filled factory floor, that coginess is always there. It’ll make you truly understand what the word “wageslave” really entails.

I have never worked there but I would imagine it's because most people can't actually conceptualize something until it's real and happening to them first hand.
For these people that means they are suddenly faced with the harsh reality that their entire existence is to be some worker drone in fact they will eventually be replaced by a literal machine once someone figures out to do it and make it cost efficient.
Maybe if there was something to look forward to outside of work it would be fine.
No one who worked on some assembly line putting bottle caps on jars of milk went insane.
That's probably because they were making the equivalent to $50/hr and after a week of work had the majority of their expenses all covered.
Yeah most people have a hard time with the realization that they are just a modern slave especially when they lack the qualities to do something about it. It's kinda like being buried alive.

warehouse job FUCK you up so bad it will fuck ur back, and give u twisted fucking spine, the stress + helment will give u hairless no mater ur genes.

ESPECIALLY picker, NEVER BE picker, u will be haunched back within 1.5 year. the job is subtle in the way it fucks u up, it doesn't look hard on u as it actually is and it will RUIN U
the black dust there is extreamly toxic to your lungs and skin and will age u very fast. I have seen 25 years old warehouse workers that look 40, one guy had full grey hair at 28

NEVER WORK in warehouse job, i have tried all shitty jobs

go call center and then slowly move to sales, it's the best dead end job u can actually grow form that postion

That’s the sad truth, you go into a job thinking hard work and grit will make you shine. You see people lazy and get so mad because you are busting your ass and they get easy treatment and the same pay.

The truth is you are just a cog and if you work hard you will break and get replaced. You will not be promoted in any meaningful way, you will not double your salary. You will get paid the standard rate so just work the bare minimum. This eats at the soul so you must build up your soul somewhere else.

It's also unethical to sign someone to a 40 hr/w contract and pressure them to working more.
So go ahead and "boohoo" me when I selected a major based on foreseen demand, got my degree, got the technical expertise, and signed an agreement that was broken in more ways than one.

U can make 300k as construction but u will get less respect than call center pajeet and u are actually lower than him on the social hierarchy just cuz u are physical labor.

most people view physical labor workers as dumb, stinky and stupid with bad genes and ugly. they place them as the lowest human life form and it's just sad reality.

This is probably true. I work in a super busy inner city ER and used to bust my fucking ass. Did all my work proactively without being told, took care of patients and carried out orders as they came up, pretty much just did what I needed to do. I was told at my second year employee review that I disappeared a lot, got complaints, and was on thin ice.

That discouraged me enough that I waited for people to tell me what to do and effectively work half has hard, if even that. My next review I was told what glowing praise I was getting and how much I had turned around my work ethic. I literally told my boss that I was working less hard to be more visible, because I was just in patient's rooms and stuff before and she rolled her eyes at me.

I think its more that they fire you quickly and dont rehire for a year or two. They dont want you hanging around. So after a few years you essentially have like the entire available labor pool in 4 buckets: hired currently, just fired, soon to be available to hire, available to work right now. Amazon is running out of the available group. they just need to stop firing people after 6 months imo.

I already did all the hard work and now I just coast off it.

If you young guys with no ambition want an ez path to making 'good' money (not great) just go work in a decent restaurant.
Get yourself cleaned up and in shape enough so people won't lose their appetite when they see you and take an entry level position.
You will actually have to work hard enough so that you stand out and people value you as an asset.
The fact you're (I assume) not a complete retard and actually speak English are going to unironically get you half way there.
Once you get a job serving you'll probably get the dog shit shifts to start but you'll be able to pick up better ones and over time as you become better at your job and other people crash and burn you'll be able to get better and better schedules.
The only thing I will tell you is that you need to have an exit plan or you will get stuck in the hell hole of restaurant industry. It's fun when you're some young 20-something and you hang out with the other staff bar hopping and going to house parties but it gets really bleak when you're in your 30s because even if you're a GM making 6 figures you're going to be on call 24/7 and have no separation between work and life.
Just never work at a dogshit place like Applebee's or Cheesecake Factory, always pick up shifts when you can, and never take a management position.
