a big problem with US shale is that they drilled too greedily and too deep during the shale boom and forever gimped their decline rates to heck. There is still *some* production growth to come for a few years but it'll come from slow and prudent developers like Exxon. But that aside, Permian is very close to being a mature basin with declining production. It's still got some spunk in there but not much.

Canada on the other hand... They've gor it made partially thanks to their gubmint being anal about infrastructure development unlike the US. Canada is where the growth is at, and they've got much better margins and lower declines. Albeit they have a lot of gassy areas as well, not that that's a bad thing
