I need some advice on what to look for when checking out a mining company as a stock pick. I have a Physics background, so I am quite confident in my choice of metal (Scandium), but I have little idea in what to look for or avoid in a company.

So what are the biggest red flags you look for? What are some promising indicators?

I prefer Canadian stocks, and the only Scandium related company I can find is IPG on the TSX-V. It's only in a development phase, but seems to have high grade scandium deposits there. Hpw can I judge the company when it doesn't actually turn a profit yet?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I'm completely turned off by the sector at the moment otherwise I'd love to help you.

The one thing I would say is look at grades, share count and structure and market cap.

Grades you want for silver higher than 70gpt, gold you want higher than 4-7. You want nice thick intervals as well. Lots of meters.

For market cap you want it to be a good value yo what you're buying. For shares you want less than 300,000. Less than 100,000 is ideal. You want a company with proven resources.

It's really a case by case thing. A lot of us are disillusioned right now because this market has been so unprecedentedly fake and gay. We should all be sitting on three x's right now but the faggot government and faggot comes have managed to rig the market for three years now and our investments have crabbed. However I think we're on the cusp now. You can't deny math.

oh boy where do I even start

Avoid microcaps and penny dreadfuls like the plague first off. This is a capital intensive sector that loves to burn shareholders' money and destroy value. Mining companies with mediocre mineral assets are a dime a dozen and most of these projects will never be developed into anything even slightly resembling a cash flowing mine. So you're usually better off avoiding the small fries unless you want to take on a lot of risk, even if you know what you're doing. One of the biggest red flags to look out for is G&A, poor management teams love to siphon money out of the company while contributing very little to actually creating value for shareholders. It's especially damaging for a company that has no other cash flow aside from dilutative private placements. Which circles us back to my recommendation that you stay out of the juniors.

>scandium
these rare minerals tend to have very tight markets and the chinks control most of the supply as I understand it. Makes it very difficult to invest in any new projects. If you really need some scandium exposure, Rio Tinto strted producing scandium oxide about a year ago but you won't be getting much in the way of "torque" with that obviously since we're talking about a mega-corporation.

>How can I judge the company when it doesn't actually turn a profit yet?
well in the absence of a feasibility study you can look at the grades and widths found in drill results, apply a recovery factor (typically rather low in rare mineral deposits I think), and extrapolate the dimensions of the deposit while multiplying them with the rock's gravity (for example 2.5) to get the tonnage, and then you'll be able to make a rough estimate of how much recoverable metal the deposit has. That's worth a certain amount of moolah in theory but you'll still need to estimate the costs... In short if there's no FS you'll have to do a lot of work. And FS' tend to undercut the costs too.

And does it add any credibility if the company's been around for longer while it's not producing? I imagine a company that's a disaster wouldn't last long

>> No.56084355

>>56083986
you'd be surprised. Lifestyle companies exist. Some companies can just sit around doing nothing too, many a project gets "mothballed" for years if the market isn't doing so well. A lot of juniors have been around for well over a decade, often with different names. How long a company has existed doesn't really matter. What matters is, do they burn equity without creating value -- or do they produce heaps of free cash flow per share?

Good read. "Cheap" doesn't necessarily equal cheap. Multiples need to be considered against peers, and higher quality businesses deserve a higher multiple. When you buy a "cheap" company, consider whether its low multiple is justified, or whether it truly is cheap.

I'm honestly surprised about oil still wanting to go up. I would think $90 WTI is a soft cap and I still expect oil to average $80 for the rest of the year. But it's certainly a welcome surprise regardless, I would just like to see more buying opportunities so I can add. Uranium spot movement is long overdue considering Cameco and Kazatomprom have continually made new contracts at higher prices, so I'm not surprised at all about that.

More on energy, natgas (Henry Hub) is still looking pretty cheap although it will probably go up more if oil takes a bit of a dip considering a lot of the supply of US natty comes from the Permian where a lot of the production is marginal even at $80 WTI. I'm still happy about holding Canadian natty producers, premium LNG pricing is also being awarded to some of the bigger players there.

I think there are some dry gas producers that produce almost 100% gas in the market but I don't think they're worth it, a good liquids cut really improves margins a lot. Companies like Tourmaline and Arc do get the majority of their boe's from natty and NGLs though. Of course there are smaller issuers worth considering like Crew, Pipestone and Peyto, but they lack the same access to premium markets and credit as the bigger ones.

I wonder how many past regulars in this general have roped. It's become rather quiet here, I assume in no small part because many of the posters simply blew all of their money on shit stocks. I remember that one french anon who managed to pick an awful many shit performers, even his big uranium pick Peninsula dumped down the toilet while its peers are doing relatively well. We had a huge exodus once all the bayhorse baggies roped, now it seems the general junior reality check has caused another.

Adapt or die.

>> No.56087503

>>56086991

I'm not stressing about it.
This was expected to get fucked the moment the CEO said FS needed to be augmented by a scoping study.
For now Salt is more or less dead money bleeding out until one of two things happens. TPR sells or trades and second one is getting funding and starting the construction process.
Until then it's not going to do shit, unless the new team reveal has some government or big player affiliated guy in there.
Realistically the only thing that can fuck this entire thing up is the environmental permits getting denied but that's about it for the risk side.
Outside the government being a bitch this is just a waiting game that got extended by them having to build the mine. Fundamentals are great and I don't see this as a risky play whatsoever.

Personally I'm happy seeing it go down first before going up. Since this isn't going to be a quick money rotation play anymore, I want a lower average and more stock.
My average is something like a bit over $2 and I want to bring it down a lot.
If it goes under 1 beaver bux and stays there long enough I'll triple my bag and hopefully get this closer to a $1 average. From there it'll be a nice ride.

>>56087277

Most of them.
Everyone holding Ricks bags of glowing rocks has fucked off and I'm sure most holding PM juniors recommended by some guru have left too.
There's only a handful of people left in here.
It has been pretty educational couple of years though.
More risk in this space really doesn't mean more return. If we look at Uranium for example, the only one that has really done well is Cameco and PM juniors are a fucking scam for the most part.
When I eventually buy miners I'll just buy Agnico Eagle or other larger companies, because the smaller ones are likely to eat shit for too many reasons.

What really surprised me about majors is how incredibly well they actually do.
The leverage juniors have is at best dogshit and at worst dangerous unless we're in a clear bull market, and even then it's apparently a better idea to hold the majors for a good while before seeing the trends confirmed and jumping ship for the juniors that are about to take off.

>> No.56087639

>>56087616
I suppose part of the issue is that interviewers and retards kept asking him to tell them about juniors he likes. When he has proven to be much better at talking about majors. He even keeps stressing it all the fucking time, that certain majors are raking in free cash flow by the fucking boatload, and that juniors swing every which way and most of them suck ass anyways. Like a year ago he was saying that he expects investors to return to quality, away from juniors and into majors. I'd say he's been right. Even on the topic of uranium he keeps saying that the juniors are overvalued and the good ones are Cameco and Kazatomprom, and I agree with him after looking at both companies.

Coal and palladium were big winners, as were aluminum and zinc.
But long term Im thinking copper and silver and uranium too

As far as miners go, you have largecap diversified (VALE), royalty miners (good for divvies), midsize (proven producers), juniors and explorers (your BHS and BLLG).
Keep in mind that its all about supply and demand. Maybe prices go down because a huge amount producers pop up - they may still have outsized gains because of efficiency and turning a profit. Look at oil for example

NDM/NAK
Northern Dynasty Minerals

This mine has about a decade of history, but I'll summarize the last 3 months

>EPA stepped in to 404 the mine due to conflict with salmon
>Alaska steps in to tell the EPA to fuck off for speaking on its behalf
>Decision Revision Part 3 by Sept. 26

I dont think this is the greatest stock ever but its got alot of potential.

A second is YES.V / Char technologies LTD.

For this company they are taking wooden materials, burning them at a low temperature to create high quality nutrition for agriculture and commercial. The technique is actually a very old one but boosted by todays technology and green initiative.

They have several plants in development and have been gaining momentum.

Let me know what you guys think. Im kinda interested in what you see.

the top chart is literally just buy & hold, and that has demonstrably been disastrous for most junior miners in the sector. Pull up a three year chart of some junior penny dreadfuls and compare them to some of the majors, or heck check out a junior miner ETF. Buying and holding only works if the company isn't actively melting down shareholder equity with nothing valuable to give in return. So many regulars here got their asses busted by juniors in the last three years. Only a handful of the juniors have been actual winners. You have to admit the junior sector as a whole is not conducive to a buy & hold strategy. You need to pick your stocks and timing carefully with the small caps and especially the microcaps

nice to see you're still with us bro

>Only thing I shilled was Lion One, Bannerman resources, Peninsula and lastly Founder metals.
I remember seeing BHS, IPT, BLLG and IRV in your portfolio. None of those have done well. LIO is down a lot on the 3y, and only recently seems to have found a possible bottom. Did you have GSVR or did you take profits from that? That's almost back to 3y lows. Founder is probably a new pick of yours, I don't remember seeing it way back and I took a half a year break from /biz/ until now, good job on getting onto that pump and I hope the trade goes well for you. I remember seeing some other stocks in your 'folio but I can't remember what they were.
>I sold at 50% gain though.
ah my bad then. Smart move. Peninsula absolutely melted for some reason. You did good by taking profits and moving your capital elsewhere.
>>56114011
the only stock I'm currently down on is BTO, about -20% right now. It got wrecked by the turmoil in West Africa but I didn't sell it. I did sell ORE and EDV to reduce geopolitical risk, I was too deep invested there. But I'm pretty comfortable holding BTO for now.

Juniors? I don't touch them much nowadays. I dabble but I keep most of my capital in bigger companies and it has so far been profitable, and much less stressful than having to swing juniors (though that was also very profitable at times, I made a killing on Chariot o&g and Emerita Resources)

well since you're not a troll I'll go more in depth, didnt think it was worth it at first. My bad.

>I remember seeing BHS, IPT, BLLG and IRV in your portfolio.
I was against BHS from the start. Stated multiple time to based small caps anon that the debt was a very big problem for the company. Finally decided in 2021 to take a small bet since the PP at the time was supposed to pay off the debt. Sold and took my loss when it turned out he was just milking his shareholders.

IPT is still a leveraged bet on spot price so I dont think its a bad hold/buy. At least they dont dillute for no reason and did it twice recently for an acquisition. Dont hold it anymore since I prefer explorer, sold at a small loss (around 2k).

BLLG and IRV are two of my biggest position as stated here>>56114053 Firm believer and would add more if I had the cash.

>LIO is down a lot on the 3y
Sold at 1.41CAD since those gains were good enough for me. Still a very good hold for long term investor honestly, its a reco in every newsletter and their drill result speak of themselves. Will buy back if they clear their debt.

>Did you have GSVR or did you take profits from that?
Sold at 0.60CAD yes, same case as LIO. I found the CEO too tempted by a few things that I dont like (debt among them). Still a very good buy.

>Founder is probably a new pick of yours
Yeah I tried to shill it early febuary but people avoid GV pick (for good reason). Historical drill result are what made me buy. Up 150% so far and pretty confident its going to be an SGD bis. 2 weeks to get drill result is unbeatable.

>I remember seeing some other stocks in your 'folio but I can't remember what they were
I had FWZ and DV, sold in green but too early. Sold KUYA at a loss. Rest is flat. Two big loss this year that I hold because I'm confident it'll come back and some more (VIPR / GLDC), two big win (BIG / FDR).

Pretty happy on how this bear market was handled honestly. And good to see yours going well anon.

ah my bad then, I had the perception that you're a buy & hold kind of guy so I suppose I just assumed you still held everything. I know some anons did hold all the way down, rest in peace their portfolios. Good to see you've managed to walk away with some profits along the way down, the relapse from the 2020/early 2021 bullrun has devastated many juniors, and some juniors are actually a lot worse off now than they were before the bullrun despite PM prices remaining pretty high. I still don't like IRV, BLLG or IPT myself but I hope they'll do well for you. Each of those companies has diluted along the way and I don't think any of them have good enough results to outweigh the dilutions (granted I haven't followed their newsflow so you're probably better informed on them than I am -- as you should).

There will come a time when the juniors boom again, and whenever that time comes to pass I'll likely jump in on that side of the sector too, but for now I'm content with the majors for the most part. I think there will first have to be strength in the majors and then capital will shift more to the juniors. And majors are in my opinion safer to hold in case of a broad market crash happens, as some have predicted. On the oil side my only smallcap is LOU, which I tentatively dipped my toes in earlier this week. And the only junior gold miner in my portfolio right now is ARTG. Would have ORE too if not for the political turmoil in West Africa, real shame about that. How is the whole situation there perceived over in Baguetteland? It's you guys' colony, or used to be anyway

it indicates that long term maturity treasuries start getting bought in favor of short term ones. 10y treasuries are viewed as a classic safe haven instrument. Right now people are dumping those though because they don't keep up with high inflation, 6m ones are in favor while inflation runs hot. A yield curve reinversion would in other words imply a market crash (asset prices falling, disinflation/deflation, flight to safety, etc). You can also think of treasuries as promises to get paid in dollars later. If you think everything is so shit that you'd rather get paid <4% yield (which would go down if people rush to buy 10y treasuries) in dollarinos for the next ten years instead of owning something like stocks for example, shit has to be pretty fucked

afaik there are only three Gary subs ITT. Me, red and the guy who curses his name every time he misses a green candle.

I would say it's worth it. Nugget memes aside he has a very good track record for timing entries/exits and is very active in his posts and updates, personally he's the only market analyst I think is worth listening to for actual real-time advice. You will make money on his calls if you follow them, so long as you don't get shaken out by the know-it-all subs in the comments or the emotional people who freak out every time he misses a bottom by a day or two. The amount of "professional" traders I see in the comments who sell out before his stop is hit only to then get back in later that same day is frankly staggering.
He doesn't always spoonfeed so ultimately you will still have to make your own trades.

Also it's worth noting it'll depend on your personal trading strategy. If you're like me and only trade ETFs across multiple sectors then you will get more out of it, but if you're in the junior metal mining meme then there's not much use in knowing when the bottoms are as you're likely just DCAing into "good" picks and holding them for a supposed moon mission.

I keep some silver. I'm not sure if it will moon, but it's not bad to have some precious metals just in case, and silver is much more affordable than gold (it's like the day to day currency, while gold is for big, rich purchases, if shit hits the fan).
I hope that helps.

Congrats, you've found the resident sperg. He'll post endlessly about how smart he is and how dumb you are, and how he's too good for these threads despite often dozens of pbtid and letting posters live rent free in his head.

Incredibly easy to troll and have him waste his own precious time on things that are apparently beneath him yet clearly keeping him up at night.

I'm still down about 20%, but I'm so l glad I swallowed my pride and capitulated on juniors a year or so ago. I'm just riding GDX, URA, URNM, XOM, and GUNR, all ETFs and much less stress while still holding to the core thesis. My only individual holdings are WPM and FNV for large cap royalties and UUUU, PEN, and DNN for uranium. I'm not intelligent or aware enough to research and time juniors appropriately, and my tuition for learning that was worth it.

The feeling is mutual, there's some definite chemistry here. Tell you what, you keep acting like a teenager with something to prove and I'll keep treating you like the teenagers I bend over, deal? I had to blow off the latest one so she doesn't get too comfortable, meaning I'm a bit hard up this weekend, maybe you can be my girlfriend tonight? I might be a little rough but I'll try to be gentle if it's your first time. C'mere

Honestly, I'd rather be thought an arrogant, obnoxious prick who's "easy to troll" than a sexually repressed retarded cretin with folders full of animal porn on my computer.

You have literally nothing to say other than these weird one-sided ERP fantasies of yours. The hilarious way that you present them as if it's cool and not weird and cumbrained is funny. You have truly been ruined by this website.

God damn the fact you felt the need to immediately tell me how much you totally don't care and are better than all this was just what I needed to get there. I could almost hear your gritted teeth and feel that little butthole clench.

I'm almost disappointed, I really thought I'd make it to bump limit but I barely made it through that last post. I'm spent, nap time. I'll light your cigarette but I'm not walking you out.

But really, this isn't a competition. You're here to entertain me. You do a decent job at it, but this sexual freak stuff is getting repetitive. Get a new schtick.

What's the scoop on West Red Lake Gold Mine?

>> No.56127399

>>56127378
I think Pan Man might know more about it but I know the gist of it. Pure Gold went into receivership while trying to develop it into a profitable operation. The grades they encountered surprised them to the downside as they didn't get the kind of average grades outlined in the Feasibility Study. Apparently WRLG managed to get their hands on that mine and are now trying to develop it themselves. The Red Lake area is pretty nuggety so maybe Pure Gold just got unlucky.

Been holding URA and URNM for about two years, no swinging as I know I can't time the trades well. I was fortunate enough to buy before the biggest run up so I've been able to weather the downturns and still have the psychological edge of still seeing green for almost all of it. Just holding.
