I started with silver because it was cheap and premiums were low. That's not the case anymore. You're taking more of a haircut if you have to liquidate with silver short term. The best advice I could give to a new stacker is to have a very well funded cash emergency fund. Cash is king. Then worry about precious metals, which should be viewed as a long term hold, throw it in a drawer and forget about it kind of purchase. And buy 1oz gold coins, pick one and stack them exclusively. I can't find the picture but I have four heavy gold watches. Pic related is one that has 80g of 18k with the movement removed. I bought it for the gold value with no premium from a cash for gold shop. It's very similar to the 18k Tiffany & Co Atlasfrom around 2007 but with a bigger and heavier 18k case than similar ones from its era.

If you and the silver stacker both bought your metals in 1941 instead of 1932, the relative disparity in potential gains between the metals would favor silver even more.

You may make the argument that gold is a more stable and steady store of value, but the biggest gains (or losses if you buy high) come from silver. Gold is an easier and more straightforward choice for midwits and normoids who might otherwise get burned by silver's volatility and physical premiums, but if you understand silver and how to stack it right the gains can be much better.

As stated, if I chose 1940 or 1941 instead of 1932 then silver's performance would have been far superior relative to gold's.
