56079129 No.56079129 [Reply] [Original]

I bought a house Jan 2020 and I had the HVAC go out which was an 8k repair then I had the water heater go out which was a 2k replacement and now my fucking outdoor deck is rotting which is going to need to be replaced and am getting quoted for fucking $12,000. And my roof is 30 years old which will probably need to be replaced soon. Also the dishwasher broke and getting a new one will cost $1200 including labor. I also needed to spend 10k+ on additional furniture to furnish the house because of the extra rooms which otherwise would just sit empty. I am one person with autism and didn’t need this fucking space. I bought a house because normies told me it would be a good investment. My house has appreciated by 100k since buying it, but who fucking cares I’m not seeing those gains any time soon since I need a place to live. And the realtor will take about 30k of those gains in commission when I eventually do sell.

What the actual fuck bros, fuck my fucking life

pro tip. never pay for shit for labor. head to /diy/, watch some YouTube videos. Even if my big repairs have taken me 2-8 hours I still learned something and never have to pay for someone to do that shit again. drilling a hole in my tile and running new laundry ducting next week and I'll be damned if I'm paying someone for it. That's a huge part of it. Houses were actually meant to be lived in and were built by actual Americans (I'm assuming you're American) and not cheap spic contractor labor for the lowest price.

Modern homes are particle board with paint on them. They basically deteriorate if you don't spend every other month giving them """maintenance""" aka fixing everything in the McShack that's slowly breaking 24/7

Can't do your own hvac repairs feasibly unless it's a simple cap replacement.

A new water heater is like ~$700 on the low side, OP may have overpaid for labor but only slightly..

Deck work needs to be permitted, $12K is honestly cheap unless it's a tiny deck.

Can't do your own roof work on a 30 year old roof, that's close to full replacement time.

But yeah home ownership is a stupid meme unless you actually want the stability of having your own place long term. It's a lifestyle decision, not a short term investment. Bought a house in early 2020 during the covid dip. Made friends with the realtor, he told me the couple I was buying from was getting a divorce, helped me haggle the price way down.
Made friends with the neighbor and he installed air conditioning for cheap, either $2200 or $3000. Got my father in law to redo all the bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room with quality tile for free, he even paid for the tile. Got my brother to redo my gutters, install a fence, next he'll probably do my deck. Bought a new washing machine, washer, dryer for cheap and installed them myself cause shit's easy. owning a house is something that most retards on this site can't comprehend and it's really a case of sour grapes.

Owning a NICE house isn't just property tax. It's maintenance. Maintenance that costs time and money and is a cost that only increases over the years with inflation.
Gasoline for lawnmowing. Roof repairs. Plumbing. Salt for the softener. New appliances every 7-9 years. Driveway repairs. Garage door repairs.

Personally I think there are few places on this planet worth owning a home outright in.

I'd rather throw 200k at a decent Prevost conversion or at least a Country Coach and spend the occasional week in a nice hotel while travelling.

I'm not fucked in the head enough to get into residential real estate. Commercial is much better.
