The sterility reminds me of Vivarium. Cool movie.
Me? I don't mind living in a small house. In my city, they changed zoning so you can build a small house in your backyard, which is what I plan on doing in my moms yard. Up to 1300sqft, 800 max on the first floor though.

It's mostly the southwest where those meme cardboard houses are being built
Those places popping on in Phoenix going for like $500k can be built for $15,000 if you just buy the stuff yourself and pay some Mexicans

The northeast is older and a lot of the structures are from a kino time in architecture. Ironically it would probably cost $1m+ to build some of those old colonial mega mansions as they did back then

A long time ago Americans tried to emulate British architectural standards, when the country still was White. The north east colonies in certain places vaguely resemble parts of England (minus the culture). That's all gone now and it's corner cutting at any cost, maximum square footage for the least quality, everything made of wood and foam, built on poor quality land. It's a microcosm of American culture in general; grifting.

There is nothing new under $350,000 on the market. Let alone with a driveway. This can also be immediately rented out.

The trend in Canada right now is for Millennials to buy sheds, call them mini-homes and put them in their parents back yards and live in them.

It used to be a meme that you're a loser if you lived in your mom's basement, but now basement's are renting out for $1000+/month. So boomers are turning their own homes into partial rentals with multiple tenants and their kids who can't buy homes are moving into their backyards in sheds.

I make prefab sheds for home depot and there will be 30 year olds home shopping on the lot with their 60 year old parents. I'll ask what they do and it's normal jobs; cooks, drivers, grocery stores, etc. They'll act excited that they are getting their "own place". They act like a 8 year old kid picking out a tree house.

We also have a ton of people buying building supplies and assembling it in decrepit vans and rvs in our parking lot. Apparently being homeless in a van by the river is now "van life". I called the police on one guy who set up saws and was putting wood floors in his busted down van in our parking lot because I thought he was setting up a homeless encampment but he actually was a manager at the auto parts store right next to us and was planning on living in a delivery van with 300,000km on it since his rent went from 1500 a month to 2k.

I just wish the people laying these out weren’t so low iq and greedy pretending this is still Levittown in 1950. So much wasted lot space in the front. Do a Radburn plan and let them have nice open space and access away from the roads and driveways in the back. Something like the Village Green in LA.
Instead we get a giant slab of concrete that heats your “yard” in the summer and 5sqft of grass and an AC unit in the back.

People lived in smaller houses for most of human history. The excess wealth from the beginning of the cold war and the 2008 crash was an anomaly in history. We won't reach that height again unless we automate most manual labor and find a cheap and effectively infinite source of energy.

The land was usually far away and was used for farming. The houses were built tight to protect from bandits and cold winds. Look up old villages in Europe, the middle east, China, Japan. Maybe in colonial places like America and Australia people could have had some acres around their home, and even these guys were in the minority with most people living in towns and cities.

and the cavemen used to live in caves, civilization has moved on and improved, going to tiny houses is a step back

I live alone in a 3 bedroom house with a large backyard that has a nice big garden in it, I put a home gym in one of my extra bedrooms. I also like switching up where I sleep, some nights it will be in the master bedroom, after a bit I get tired of it and switch to sleeping in my guest room, then I will switch between the two large leather couches I have in my living rooms just because they are so comfy, apartments and tiny trailer, I mean homes, will never know these feelings.

And funny enough since I bought 5 years ago with a 3% mortgage, my costs are less than the average rent for a small apartment around me now haha.

Basically humans have been suffering all throughout history, but with each generation gradually improving – until Boomers stepped in and pulled the ladder up.
Now they want use to gradually have a worse and worse living condition for each generation.

That's definitely clever they're doing that, however the problem is and always will be black people. And that's now the case more than ever because black people no longer have any accountability and pointing any issues out with them gets you labeled and enemy of the state. A small little home like that with an affordable price should draw in young couples looking to start their way in the world...it should...What it will actually be though is an entire inner city tribe of blacks that will terrorize the neighborhood in ways you can't even imagine resulting in anyone with the slightest shred of self-respect running screaming for the hills. Eventually everyone will know to just avoid the place.
