if crypto developers want to do something useful they can invent a token whereby thirdies wishing to post on the american internet (probably some butthurt about how a white man hasn't shown them how to use shoes because of cuts to foreign aid or how some russians sister was sold for $3 not $4 to a mexican or whatever grift their working this week) they have to pay a tribute in thanks for creating and securing a global system that has quite literally put clothes on their backs and show them how agriculture and medicine works.
once paid the thirdie may post one (1) text based comment with a 50 character limit. they can then return to work for another six months to save the $1 needed to post another.
takings will be pooled and handed out equally as a dividend on independence day every year.

Your bullshit sarcasm is way off the mark, funnily enough. The 1600s in England were marked by the beginning of the industrial revolution, not massive ozone depletion or extreme weather attribution. The vast majority of climate-altering emissions have been released since the late 19th and 20th centuries. Modern science clearly indicates that these emissions have led to significant global warming and related extreme weather patterns. Let's focus on the well-established science and current data rather than making misleading historical references.

Oh my fucking god, I know 4chan doesn't have the brightest people but holy fuck you conservatives do not understand basic insurance pricing. You seem to be conflating two different issues: the actual damage caused by climate-related events and the way insurance companies account for and price that risk.

Allstate (ALL) , like many other insurance companies, rely on actuarial models to predict potential losses from events like hurricanes, floods, and wildfires. If they consistently underestimate the impact of these events due to not fully accounting for climate change, they stand to lose money. It's in their best interest to get the predictions as accurate as possible. Inflation and housing prices may affect the cost of claims, but they don't cause more frequent or severe weather events.

You are mouth-breathing retarded.

It was the non stop pollution that was unregulated for almost a century. And fun fact, in New York late 1800/early 1900s, everyone had a horse. It was so much so that the manure e from the horses would clog the sewers and make the air unbreathable, because of the chemicals. So, the solution came in the form of a combustible engine. Replacing the literal horse shit with some smoke that we know now to be diesel fumes. However, with one problem a solution is formed which eventually creates another problem. I.e. cars solved the horses, but nope the pollution from cars? So to solve that we mine the fuck outta the earth for natural resources to create solar panels and wind turbines. But what happens to the excess waste of the older material which needs to be replaced? And how many forests are we losing to produce solar farms? You people thinking you ar eso clever sicken me. >Horse Manure vs. Fossil Fuels
The problem of horse manure in New York in the late 1800s and early 1900s was a localized sanitation issue, not a global climate one. While it was a significant concern for city planners, the combustion engine's pollution has long-lasting and widespread consequences for global temperatures, sea levels, and weather patterns.

>Solar Panels & Wind Turbines
Yes, manufacturing solar panels and wind turbines has an environmental footprint, but it's dwarfed by the lifetime emissions reductions these technologies offer compared to fossil fuels. Plus, research is ongoing to reduce the environmental impacts of manufacturing and recycling these technologies.
>Deforestation
It's a myth that we're destroying vast forests for solar farms. Most solar installations are on previously developed land, or areas unsuitable for agriculture or habitation. Plus, the environmental footprint of solar farms is minuscule compared to the deforestation driven by other industries like agriculture or logging.

The crux of the matter is, we're currently adding CO2 and other greenhouse gases to the atmosphere at an unprecedented rate, which is leading to rapid global warming. Comparing historical localized pollution issues to the current global crisis oversimplifies the challenge we face.

>Insurance Requirement
In the U.S., if you have a mortgage on your home, your lender typically requires you to have homeowner's insurance. This protects the lender's investment in the property, ensuring that even if something catastrophic happens, they can recover their loan amount.

Uninsurable Homes
>If a house is deemed 'uninsurable' due to extreme risks (e.g., being located in a very flood-prone zone without proper flood defenses), it can indeed become very difficult to secure a mortgage for it. Lenders are reluctant to finance properties that aren't insured.

High Premiums
> Sometimes, a house might not be deemed 'uninsurable', but the insurance premiums might be sky-high due to perceived risks. This doesn't render the house unmortgageable, but it does make it less affordable for potential buyers. If a homeowner or buyer cannot afford the insurance premiums, they likely won't be approved for a mortgage.

Specialized Insurance
> In areas with specific risks, like flood zones, additional insurance policies, such as flood insurance, might be required. In some high-risk areas, private insurers may not offer coverage, but there might be federal insurance programs. For instance, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) provides flood insurance for properties in high-risk flood areas.

Non-renewals and Cancellations
> There have been instances, especially in areas frequently hit by natural disasters, where insurance companies choose not to renew policies or cancel existing ones. When this happens, homeowners might need to find alternative insurers, often at higher costs, or risk defaulting on their mortgage requirements.

In essence, the situation is not entirely dissimilar to the UK. A home that's not insured presents significant risks to lenders, so it's a crucial factor in the mortgage approval process here in the States as well

STNG is actually a product tanker, so it's supply/demand balance is somewhat distinct from crude.

This is a seasonal low anyway, so perhaps we'll see more visible tightness in the next few months. Limited upside for STNG either way. It was a much better buy at $10-15 than it is today. These asset plays have pretty defined value, and while the Ukraine invasion did provide a real boost to earnings, in the end ships reach maturity, new ships must be built. Generally ROIC across the full shipping cycle is mediocre and STNG is not a name I would consider top tier governance.
The best play on STNG is to hope Bugbee flips more calls to pump your bags.

that if you're China and India, and you're able to get a lot more of your energy needs from Russia, you don't need to be ordering tankers months/years in advance in order to receive oil shipments - the demand for using tankers, and buying from other nations decreases, if Russia is offering a 20%+ discount

I'm not sure that it translates that way - the demand from EU for the tankers already existed - ~2/3 Russian oil shipped to EU from tankers before the war
they shifted to other tanker companies / countries, but still the same demand for tankers worldwide
but then if you have India / China stop demanding tankers as they are able to get more from Russia pipelines / Russia tankers, the demand for tankers outside of Russian ones falls
I obviously do not have the data or backtest to look at this under a fine tooth comb, but my gut instinct, and the price action on tankers / shipping containers and the like, is telling me that the net effect is decreased demand for tankers net, globally

Pollution is a manmade phenomenon almost by definition. There are technically some natural processes that produce results considered pollution such as fires started due to weather, but the general connotation of "pollution" is that of human origin.
When I mentioned environmental problems in the previous post, I wasn't specifically referring to pollution. I wasn't referring to anything really. Regardless, what constitutes a "problem" in that sense is subjective so it's not something I'd be interested to debate further.

But microplastics are not the unsolvable problem you make them out to be. That is a fact, and if you intend to attempt at convincing me otherwise then you'll need to provide some evidence.

>I feel like nobody talks about the elephant in the room for oil market, of Russia exporting to China and India
That's actually the bull case. Russia exports to India who then refines their crude and ships it back up to Europe. It bypasses sanctions because the gas/diesel loses that Russian stink and becomes clean Indian products. That is happening right now. There's no tracking on the chain of custody for Russian crude to prevent this, and even if there were, India could just ship products sourced from different oil imports. In the end, it's a global commodity.

The China factor only becomes a bear case if they build out new pipelines, which is not something I'm in the loop on. Perhaps that is happening. I wouldn't be surprised. It takes time though, and most of these tanker stocks are trading at 3-4 year implied bull market duration. No one expects the current situation to last forever, the bet is on how long it lasts, how bad it gets, and how the various public companies choose to return capital vs wastefully reinvest in future ships.

There are worse things that could be there: Lead, for example. We've been using lead and dealing with the resulting poisoning since the Romans, if not earlier.
It's only within the last 50 years or so that we decided to start caring.

I'm sure if microplastics are shown to have long term negative impacts then we'll eventually see a larger effort to actively resolve that problem as well, but there are also plenty of foreign compounds that are considered benign when found inside the human body.

CFCs were a generally authentic constituent in greenhouse theories of global warming. But the revolving door of homocentric models always ignore natural emissions. Currently we are finding that we may still be in the termination phase of the ice age that had its initial stages back about 10k years ago.. Time-scales and Systematic scales are being personalised, because, like with religion, humanity only thinks on personal scales.. For all you know, this whole bag of events is a solar cyclical mechanism. Add the right light to the right natural emissions and you have a thermogenic effect.

Whilst I agree that humanity's futures depend solely on ingenuity, ritualistic primitivism with wind farms and sorting recyclables are inanity. Might as well toss chicken bones.

Understandable. It was an interesting discussion.
As someone who spends part of my free time oil painting, I do my best to ensure no lead gets inside my body.
I don't really like the idea of microplastics either, even if it's sort of unknown/untested at this point in time. Not sure what else we can do at this point other than speculate, unfortunately.
I know that solutions exist on a macro level, but within an individual human today I really have no idea. The treatment for lead poisoning is to inject another compound that flows through and tends to attract the lead. Perhaps something could also be done that singles out and targets certain microplastic compounds.
