Ripple Labs is a company. An old company at that. XRP is the currency. There are something like 100 billion XRP. All of them mined by the Ripple team. Right now, 30 billion are in circulation. The rest is "held in escrow" by Ripple Labs. They release 1 billion XRP every month.

Now...ask yourself, how do they release it? Where do they get their funding from?

They sell it off and flood the market. They keep all the money for development, salaries, etc. So they basically artificially constrict the supply of XRP... And by doing so they increase the price.

But wait! Banks are working with Ripple and are supposed to use XRP!

No. No bank worth their weight would do institutional money transfers on something heavily traded in exchanges. What they ARE doing is developing proprietary software like XRP so banks can transfer among themselves.

Current literal XRP is literally a hype train. Its simply a source of income and liquidity for Ripple Labs.

Thanks. I needed that. Had to go look at my reminder spreadsheet to see where exactly XRP is at since I bought and sold it 6 months ago. It's up 11% relative to BTC, and for most of that is was severely lagging.

Bonus points to anyone who caught the current run up, but I'm with that guy. Fuck all these coins that are created by people who need funding for something or other, but their coin does nothing but get dumped to fund them every now and then. At least the currency coins serve as a medium of exchange with some benefits or others. Shit like XRP is garbage for long term holds.

Holding XRP as a long-term speculative investment makes Z E R O sense. They are going to dump 1b each month out of escrow to KEEP THE PRICE STABILIZED. So, in a perfect world, if their platform is utilized as Ripple Labs is envisioning, XRP will remain a low, stagnant price forever. What fucking institutional bank would establish their back-end settlement system with a means of payment that fluctuates wildly every day? The answer - they won't. They're either NOT going to use the XRP token (most likely), or they're going to force Ripple Labs to use their $40billion or so XRP tokens (FUCKING INSANITY THAT THEY CONTROL ALL OF THAT) to establish a price floor and ceiling.

This is a dogshit investment. I'm glad people are making money but take your profits and fucking run.

Also, if you think this shit is getting added to coinbase, you're delusional. Go look at the OFFICIAL CRITERIA coinbase has posted for tokens they're looking to add. First and foremost, the first tokens are going to be ERC20 tokens. Second, they specifically said they DO NOT WANT any centralized token. *ahem*

Ripple labs CEO was on CNBC two days ago doing an interview during Squawk Box (anyone here actually do any real investing and keep up with this shit?) and he was specifically saying Ripple was ONLY focused on the XRP value prop as a means of settlement payment through banks. ZERO focus on e-commerce, individual payments, etc. He even went so far to mention that Ripple Labs NEVER intends to pivot from this model and to seek other projects if you, as an investor, are more interested in other types of adoption.

This shit is garbage.

/End fud rant. (that isn't fud.. because I have no vested interest in the performance of XRP - positive or negative. I just fucking hate this shit coin.)
