hey /biz/, I'm about to buy a 6500 sq.ft. plot of land for $80k, and I want the owner to reduce the price some $5k. I'm pretty sure the owner is desperate for some cash... but he already told me months ago that the price is final.
what's a good strategy (aka bullshit argument) for that? I'm thinking of telling him that I have enough money to pay that sum + other costs and so that's my offer. what else could work?

if he's truly desperate you can get more than 5k off. Offer 65k and go from there. Or get him to carry some of the note at zero interest. like 60k now, plus 20k over five years

Let me guess. You're going to turn it in to a parking lot.

forgot to mention:
it's either cash or getting a mortgage to pay him, but I guess I don't really need to talk about a mortgage...

I have the money to pay for the land, and while this does sound interesting, I'd rather get him to lower the price

I hadn't thought about it, so thanks for the suggestions

yeah, I posted this image before and talked about this before

Ask it to be reduced to $5k.

I wish. fucking thing is overpriced...

I just talked to the owner. He refused to lower the offer more than 2k.
guess it's over. not gonna buy overpriced land.

Why didn't I think of this...
I had an offer like that. Had I shown the owner, he probably would have bought it himself. There is a reason the guy doesn't want to negotiate, and that is: he has money. How do I know? Because I did some background research on him.

I mean, I had seen an ad like that. In fact, I was too slow to buy it, otherwise I'd have bought that one immediately

This. Offer 65k and then he’ll counter offer with like 75k and just ghost him and he will eventually send you another offer for 70k and from there you might want to accept
