The government figures for unemployment and inflation are designed to be as socially stabilizing as possible. They're complete bullshit. They're so bizarre it would be like for example defining a date as simply talking to a girl. Using this definition you would not be painting an accurate representation of your success in the dating scene. It's like saying "I'm going to take a vacation!" and telling everyone the cost of the vacation is just the plane ticket.

It's actually so brazen how much they torture the numbers that even my examples are barely on the same level. Put it this way, if they in any way shape or form say "it's bad" then it isn't just bad, it's an absolute disaster. The Global Financial Crisis for example was a time they came out and said "things are bad" and meanwhile behind closed doors they were saying "hey the entire global economy is 24 hours from completely and irreversibly collapsing."

We love to count the number of jobs rather than which jobs pay living wages or provide full hours / benefits. The metrics are completely useless.

This. The federal reserve actually specify this when discussing unemployment figures. The fed also actually wants unemployment to go up because muh inflation, so yeah

based on what data? Because IIRC Biden changed the way employment is tracked by counting part-time jobs as full time job or some bullshit. Did they go back to how it was?

Get out your calculator and divide 3.8 by 3.5. It's an 8.5% increase.

Isn't the actual unemployment rate like 45-50% of the eligible workforce when you account for those on social welfare for like disability and shit like that alongside those that just stopped "looking" working.

There's labor force participation rate. The figure that includes men only is the one that matters because women used to be homemakers. Labor force participation includes people seeking employment. I would like to see the one that's only people working and what percent earn a liveable wage.
