all bulls had to do was give a simple -1% pull back any day this week. Could have been when the dollar rallied 0.5%. Instead, they keep compressing the VIX. Now VIX is in big supply zone and the VVIX is pumping. The stage is set for a serious waterfall

Why are you like this? 7 green days in a row and you want more? We rallied to 460 on improved earnings expectations. Do you think the macro environment 2 months later supports even better earnings expectations?

nothing I say matter because the thesis for buyers here is "The SPY goes up 10% a year forever"

LISTEN UP
PAY ATTENTION
https://www.forexlive.com/news/us-dollar-jumps-higher-as-treasury-yields-pop-whats-driving-it-20230901/
>It's unclear what's happening in the bond market today as US 30-year yields lead the way higher, up 8.5 bps to 4.288%. The front-end is more subdued with 2s flat at 4.85%, though well-above the post-NFP low of 4.76%.
Given the dovish data today, it's tough to explain why bonds are selling off. I wonder if there are flatten trades clearing out or something else is going on around the turn of the month. Energy could also be a factor with the market worried it could keep the Fed higher for longer. Or it could be a case of 'buy the rumour, sell the fact'.
>In any case, the US dollar is suddenly surging in a total reversal from the initial non-farm payrolls report.

Look at the fucking yields!
Bonds are selling off, against all expectations, against all "bad news is good news" Fed won't have to be aggressive. This is how you know shit is actually hitting the fan, when bonds are moving AGAINST what they *should* be doing - when all the pros are baffled and don't understand why this is happening
>It's unclear what's happening in the bond market today
>It's unclear what's happening in the bond market today
Get the fuck out!! It is 100% transparent here that shit is fucking serious! Bonds should NOT be selling off hard today as they are
We got bad news after bad news, and bonds are STILL selling off
BUDDY, LOOK AT THE BONDS
BUDDY, LOOK AT THE DXY
WE ARE AT 104, AGAIN!!
>Everything is fine, markets are flat, what are you talking about?

Agreed. The people here really do like taking it up the butt. The central bank literally says "we have no tools to fix our currency", WTF? The central bank has two jobs: (1) maintain inflation at a steady pace of 2% (giga fail); (2) look after the currency (giga fail again).
This situation has only and only benefited large caps that export to the US and to EUR countries. The weak currency keeps importing inflation... yet, people keep swinging to the socialist party more and more.
Why would anyone invest into the Swedish currency when in times of desperation and economic difficulty you want to invest in a safe and big currency like the dollar (as we are seeing these last two years). There is literally no incentive for anyone to invest into Sweden.
And the people here are either oblivious or happy because they got their +4% raise... pathetic.
At least Sweden, just like Germany, has these "smaller" companies like Hanza, NOTE, NCAB which perform exceptionally well.

When the bond market is flooded with sellers trying to offload their bonds, the yields rise to attract buyers.

When there are lots of buyers hungry for the safety bonds (like when the stock market crashes or something bad happens) the sellers can offer lower yields and the buyers will take it.
This is all done automatically by the market makers. it's all computerized.

>Can you explain to me like Im a smoothbrain?
Bond prices and yields are inverse to each other, in other words, if bond prices go up, yields go down, if bond prices go down, yields go up
>Think about it like this, you loan me $90, I write you a piece of paper that says I will pay you $100 in 1 year --- you sell this piece of paper to someone else for $95 - who will receive more interest in 1 year, you originally - $90 --> $100, or the second person who bought it, $95 --> $100
>The price of the IOU (piece of paper, bond) went up from $90 to $95, the interest they receive went down from $10 to $5 - price of the bond went up, yield went down

Market participants price bonds (and thus the yields the bonds are giving) based upon many factors, economic activity, demand for money, alternatives available, but the main, most important driver of bond prices is Federal Reserve monetary policy and forward guidance / expectations on future Fed policy.
Today, we got bad news from the jobs report showing hours cut, wages flat, unemployment rate going up from 3.5% to 3.8%, we had bad manufacturing/services data, bad international data too.
Normally, when seeing this bad data, the market would go "Oh, look, the data is weakening, this is good news, as it means Fed monetary policy is working, and they won't have to continue to be so aggressive to disrupt inflation / "over"-employment (past maximum employment)"
When market participants think this, it lowers the chances of future Fed rate increases, increases the chances of Fed rate cuts in the future. This increases the price of bonds, bonds rally, yields fall - it is why we rallied so hard last week, because of bad data coming out one after another, easing interest rate expectations.
Today, after the data, rate expectations dropped

for example, November hike odds have decreased from 50% to 33% in about a week

with expectations for hikes decreasing, and expectations for sooner cuts increasing, you would expect to see yields falling, not rising. You would see 10yr / 30yr bond yields especially be falling
Today they have gone up sharply, against all expectations, against all "fundamentals"
This is very bearish, and shows that there are a lot more troubles brewing under the surface to drive people to be mass selling bonds
When the market "doesn't understand" why this is happening, it's uncharted waters, uncertainty, and the market hates uncertainty
It is extremely bearish that bonds are selling off this hard today, in spite of the data

Inflation has bottomed. If you want the deflation rally in bonds to happen you need a little bit more than -0.1% on the SPY. You can't have record high valuations, high commodity prices, and lukewarm economic conditions, and then expect yields to dump 3% because UE ticked up. Just not how it works. >and then expect yields to dump
what I'm trying to say is that all market participants have been FOMO'ing into bonds at these high yields, that many, many people think/thought that yields had topped out, and that they needed to buy assets such as the TLT before yields fell - serious FOMO buying into bonds, as they "Just have to lock in these high yields before yields buckle and fall below 4%, fall below 5%!"
TLT long trade has probably been the most talked about, overyhyped over the past week among "pros"

As far as I understand, nothing is worse than deflation.
Stagflation would at least inflate the debt away

>> No.56001776

>>56001748
I know that is that or you can call it like that. But you have to understand that others will not care about your opinion anymore. Doesn't make the war in Ukraine really right, but them not listening to you absolutey understandable.

For the government deflation is the worse. For savers? Stagflation is the worse because fixed income instruments get torched destroying the wealth and poor get squeezed.

Europe is already in deflationary deathspiral. The Netherlands and Austria got confirmed being fucked today. Though Austria is extra fucked. 7.8% inflation, negative ppi, negative order growth, increasing unemployment

>deflationary deathspiral
>higher inflation
What do you even mean? The economic activity is shitting itself yes, but the prices are nto going down but up. That is stagflation.

>> No.56001864

Who cares about prices, they are following. An economic deflation, means production capabilities going the way of the dinosaur and more people losing their jobs, is fuckier. Better first prices coming down and then economic deflation then the other way around. Also inflation is mostly driven by housing and an artificial driven production manipulation

That was THE topic for 2 years

>> No.56001882

>>56001870
Yeah so? Now the topic is prices being stagnant outside of the pyramid scheme that is real estate that if prices come down fast there the entire house of cards dies, because the entire banking system is collateralizatied with that pyramid scheme

Not true, actually. Go fill a cast iron pan with a thin layer of water and put it on high heat. Watch where the bubbles form.
