I’m paying $75 for T-Mobile now, I see that Mint is offering unlimited data plans for $30/month. What’s the catch? Should I switch? Is coverage worse?

>> No.55956465

Mint Mobile uses T-Mobile’s network, so the coverage should be the same

I thought that only had 1GB a month. I had prepaid ATT ten years ago and it was ok other than that.

Reading this it seems like international calls are the main plus for T-Mobile.
https://www.techradar.com/news/mint-mobile-vs-t-mobile-which-carrier-is-best-for-you

Which isnt a bad perk for when I travel out of the country, but not worth paying an extra $420 a year.

Am I missing anything else?

i figured out the deal with these.

they kind of "lock" you to specific towers. so if you are always in one or two places they are great. but forget about using these if you are travelling around a lot or need the plan for deliveries or something.
thats how they are offered much cheaper.

>> No.55957254

>>55957251
and by "these" i mean virtual networks.

whether this is intentional or not IDK. it probably is. thats why the prices are low

>> No.55957261

>>55957254
Sounds like it's for poor people who stay home when they're not working

>> No.55957282

Prices are low because the support is shit but I haven’t had any significant problems with mint mobile other than some nigger got the entire public IP range banned because he kept posting pictures of his hand on /v/

Interesting, I knew there was some kind of catch and what you say makes a lot of sense. I am a poor NEET but I might wait until after I move to switch. One thing I can’t stand is no reception - a situation with a friend of mine came close to costing him his life if he only didn’t have the carrier that he had (got trapped somewhere with only one carrier having service - luckily it was the one he had.)
>>55957282
That happens with literally any public ip range. You must be either very rural or new.

I have cricket and have road-tripped, doordashed and been out in the boonies with no issue. I use to even have service when my friends with sprint/Verizon didn’t have any.

The catch is these lower free cell providers don't subsidize upgrades. With major providers you can upgrade for free usually with contract rollover or a new model launch promotion, but with mint you still have to shell out +$50/m on top of cellular contract if upgrade. The benefit is that it's cheaper if you like holding on to your older phone, but the drawback is it's more expensive when you do upgrade.

Just checked and they offer a galaxy s23 for +$75/m, whereas I got mine for "free" by trading in my old galaxy with AT&T.

>> No.55957738

>>55957319
It's not the public IP ranges, it's the singular public IP the carriers CGNAT everyone behind. You don't get your own public IP on most cell networks unless they're using IPv6 (and you have stuff that can handle it IE not Android or iOS.)

Buying phones on credit is for niggers. Decent smartphones barely cos $150 these days anyway.

>singular public IP the carriers CGNAT everyone behind
There is not a singular “carrier public IP” which is why they banned entire ranges. Posters kept abusing the fact that cellular carriers were constantly dynamically re-assigning public addresses allowing phone posters to evade bans.

>> No.55957884

>>55957738
Mint mobile’s block of addresses were banned because you could literally just reboot your phone and get a fresh address to evade a ban.

>> No.55958384

>>55956451
The catch is that you pay for the whole year upfront, but other than that it's pretty based

Dynamically assigned IPs have been a thing since dialup, way before anyone had smartphones. Or before the other 99.9999% of ye trash turned up online.

Bro, T-Mobile advertises international calling and data plans but let me tell you, THEY FUCKING SUCK. They will charge you twice the rate and when you go overseas, you'll have spotty 3g/4g coverage at best. I almost got stranded before because of it. Do not pay for their international coverage ever. Just use mint mobile and get local SIMs when you travel. eSIMs are best because they're easily swappable.

isn't the point of a virtual network that it will work with all of the same towers as the full carrier network, just at a degraded quality of service? as in, you will get reception in all the same places, but it may be slower due to having lower traffic priority

I've used mint mobile all across the JewSA but yeah outside of it, it sucks. Why not get minty for their 3 months/$45 deal and try it in your usual spots? If it sucks then go back to tranny mobile. Also don't be a faggot who needs the newest jew phone.

They deprioritize your traffic in some rare instances, but it's almost never happened to me. I went from paying $1200 a year to $250, absolutely a coup. I wish I'd switched earlier, would have saved me some budgeting woes.

You have to try to decipher the plan doubletalk, but it looks like 50GB... but only if there is congestion... who knows. It's a crapshoot.
