>For the obverse I have therefore chosen a star (one of the heraldic elements of the National crest) bearing on its centre the shield of the Union, surrounded by the legal inscription and date.

What makes you think that?
The price chart looks completely schizophrenic. Even shitcoins aren't this volatile. How can a commodity be worth $600 in 2016 then spike to $30,000 in 2021, to then go back down to $4,000 now?

Idk anything about Rhodium, but the only thing who come to mind to explain such extreme price delta is the very limited supply. Maybe there is only one mine of rhodium on earth?
So if the mine is getting shutdown for X or Y reason, it's all good for you. Especially if the metal have very specific industrial application with no existing alternative. But what if a second mine open and flood the market?
Too rare means too risky, it's not the kind of bets i like.

But if anything, you certainly are better buying it at 4K than 30K. But looking at the chart, it looks like on it's way to go back down to 600 rather than the opposite..
Looking at the timeline on the chart, could be the spike coof-related? We know many miners were forced to stop their activities due to essential workers only policy.
If AJ is right and our (((elites))) plan to do a coof scare 2.0, then you might be onto something.
But be sure to explore all the metrics before doing such a bet.

>Maybe there is only one mine of rhodium on earth?
There are zero mines. It's an incredibly rare byproduct of mines targeting other elements. It's useful though, essential in catalytic converters. Platinum/Palladium are similar in that aspect.
While the chart shows a pretty clear post-covid bubble due to the effects you mentioned, I see no reason for it to dump below previous levels. There are many more dollars in existence these past few years, yet rhodium maintains its rarity. The way I see it, this is a long term bet against inflation with a free option that we also see another insane squeeze due to the tight market and inelastic demand.
The big question is where does it bottom. Clearly it's still looking like a falling knife, but it seems interesting so I like to start thinking about these ideas early.

Virgin Mary Mother of God, have mercy on me. Bless us and protect us in the simple things.

>What’s the best way to buy as close to spot as possible? The big online retailer markups seem nuts to me. They’re always a good 15-20% over spot.
This might be taxation, depending on where you are. Usually you can buy and sell gold tax free and a 1oz coin is sold for 1.5%, or less than 3% with shipping.

If you want to buy silver, don't fall for meme coins like the 90ies TV cartoon or 2000s fantasy movie character, for a premium of 30% or more.
Just buy the cheapest silver you can get, that has security features everyone can verify themselves.
That means only Maple Leaf and Britannia right now.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zKxrHUALQI
Better yet, buy a large LBMA certified bar or coin, say 1kg or up, to reduce premiums even further, if it's about the investment.
Exception are numismatics, but i doubt that is something you get interested in as a beginner or investor.

Depending on where you live it could be cheaper and atleast more fun to go on road trip to Mexico. All you have to do is not get robbed or killed by the cartel, get to the bank, tap some old lady in line on the shoulder, ask her in your best Spanish if she can take your money and buy some silver with it. Then you need to get back in your car and drive home hoping the cartel or the border agents don't confiscate your recently acquired purchase. Seems to easy to me and would save you lots of monies.

Avoid. Despite all the promises, you don't have the gold in your hands, so you don't have agency over it.

If you want to put some gold under the mattress, buy or order a gold coin with security features you can yourself check. Spot price is the real price for gold, but you have to pay premium, because the coin must be minted, packaged and sent. Regular premium should nbot be higher than 1.5% over spot, less than 3% with shipping.
The only coins with very high self evident proof of authenticity are Maple Leaf and Britannia (year 2023 will be a new, undamaged coin). Best Premiums are in the 1oz coins.

To sell, go to a local coin shop (LCS) and sell your coin(s) for exactly spot, never below. Sometimes you can sell online, but then you have to pay shipping too.

They sell you a promise of gold (with premium) and buy the promise back under spot (for now 1%, but in 2 years it could be 6% or they don't buy back at all, because the gold never existed in the first place).
If you want to use gold for investment, use ETF. But that is a mistake, there are better investments.
Instead, buy the gold, put it in a sock and see it as a store of value.

>I'll try find some other place where to sell near spot
AT SPOT. As in, exactly spot, never below!

Gold.de is a german website to compare prices, i see more than 5 offers to buy gold at or over spot price (which i have marked red).
You have to find such a site for your country. Pretty sure you can sell at spot in your area too.

Goldbacks are a different animal than most PM's. Most of the value of a PM is in the weight. Half the value of a GB is the form factor. People are stuck on the spot/premium calculation that doesn't really apply to GBs.
You can walk into many stores with Goldbacks and walk out with goods. You may get lucky and find a tradesman who will work for a stack of ASE's, but they are few and far between.

Yes there's no argument here, gold is not an investment as is not most of the stocks currently, as they produce nothing. Gold could be seen, similary to aforementioned stocks, as a vehicle for speculation -- but we're in agreement here, it's savings for me. Literally the bullion market here is as shit as I describe it so no matter what they do in Germany just doesn't apply to me. I guess I'll just buy bullion and wait for the Collapse™ until the end of my days. I'm just looking for a solution here where I can with a somewhat little risk secure my savings for an indefinite term -- something I can liquidate when I need the fiat. If the market was as it is in Germany, then that could be just bullion. As it is not, I was looking for something that's not an ETF where I carry enormous counterparty risk and not bullion where the local juice fuck me in the ass due to illiquidity. "Yes we bay 5 % below spot -- the fuck are you going to do about it?" -- and then in addition the premium when buying.

So didn't you repeat a hundred times that they will bring out a gold backed currency and end the US hegemoney? What happened to that?

It was a hallmark from the semi-independant town of Perpignan, who was reintegrated to the kingdom of France a century earlier after being under Spain's dominion. Their goldsmiths and silversmiths were granted a special tax privilege in regarding the Fermiers Generaux (tax collectors), but who didn't last long, as the revolution happened soon after.
So this town had it's own hallmark, a rat, from 1784 to 1789.
No need to tell you a single town and just for 5 years, 250 years ago, there aren't many silver pieces left with this hallmark.

My hope is i can sell it for a premium to the right collector. Finding the good buyer might be a harduous task tho..

Aussie florins(two shilling coins) are a better deal on eBay if you’re in America, everything prior to 1946 are .925. If you look hard you can win auctions for $10ish or less if you’re lucky.

Individual shillings have half the silver and they end up costing about the same, especially with shipping costs thrown in.

British shillings and florins always seem to cost more (on eBay at least) and they were debased to 50% silver in 1920.

>A rat hallmark from the semi-independant town of Perpignan, who was reintegrated to the kingdom of France a century earlier after being under Spain's dominion.

Very interesting, I've never seen anything marked like that before, the quality detail and clarity of the rat hallmark is quite impressive. To have earned a hallmark like that Perpignan must've been used after the Reconquista as the depository for recalcitrant Spanish Jews. Perhaps France should have let Spain keep it kek.

Nothing too interesting for me lately, bought this batch of cheapies containing 4 silver spoons the other day, probably only around 90g of sterling scrap but it adds up.

Fren.. your standards are getting a bit extreme kek. But i noticed it too. Not many cheapies to slurp lately. Hope we will see some action against once summer ends!
I'm eyeing an auction who close in few hours, not followed by many so lets hope i can win it for cheap.

Another one i'm targeting is this cute condiments' service, but i'd like to have your opinion on it, as it's from Malaysia and i have zero experience about asian silver, and i'm a bit wary of it. It's stamped as silver, but it probably doesn't mean shit. Tho, to me, from the pics it looks like it is the real deal. Your opinion?

>Would you be able to identify the patterns and check if they're sterling if you weren't able to see the hallmarks in any of their pictures?

Yeah, at least for the 3 larger matching silver spoons in Towle's "Candlelight" pattern which I recognize and have handled before. I have a good visual memory for objects so I've recognized as sterling and bought cheap many items where no hallmark pics or even mention of sterling was provided. Many others that look promising which I don't immediately recognize can be looked up in a few comprehensive websites detailing all makes and patterns of silverware.

>>55923552
Unfortunately I have no experience with Kelantan/Malaysian silver either, I think the 3 condiment pots look good but the holder appears a bit suspicious. It could be grime or tarnish but a few spots on the bottom look like they might be plating wear-through and corrosion near the tip (bottom right in my cropped pic)?

And logically* the rally should double down if the FED announce a pause in the raise of interest rates during the next meeting, 20 Sept.
Currently at 5.50%, i don't see them being able to go much higher, the current rates already are buck-breaking the system as it is. Maybe 6% top.

What's curious is all the financial papers repeated for over a year now climbing interest rates would tank PMs - especially gold - valuation, as bonds are supposedly as secure as gold, but would now yield 5-7% risk free, against 0% for metals, thus everybody would dump their PMs to buy T bonds.

Reality is non-US institutions are avoiding US bonds like the plague, no matter the yield, even getting rid of what they have, and nobody sold their gold.
So the PM supposed "blackswan" ended up being a complete nothingburger. Even after 550 basis points being added.

Will the opposite also be true? Those same papers claims the minute the FED pivot and push the rates back down, it will trigger an exodus of the institutions from Tbonds toward gold.
Considering their track record + clownworld, i wouldn't bet on this, but this is the logic at play.

Even if deals are less common lately, perhaps in part because it's still summer and casual normie sellers are doing other things, there will always be better deals sooner or later. Good luck brotha!
