I think a lot of poor people are so obsessed with the concept of "saving money" no matter how little it actually saves them.

For example, you could probably save some money by shopping at Walmart instead of your local grocery store. But the truth is that the price differences are so small that amount of money you save by shopping at Walmart instead has so little impact on your day to day life (even over a long period of time) that it practicality doesn't matter. In fact, you're losing something on this transaction: you have to shop at Walmart, meaning you have to be around all sorts of undesirables who get kicked out of grocery stores.

If it's something like half the price, I'll first try to figure out why that's the case. Sometimes there's a good reason for it, like the half-priced item is actually a piece of shit compared to the full-priced item, while other times there's no clear reason why the half-priced item costs less since the full-priced item doesn't seem to be superior. But if it's only like a dollar's difference or something, then I don't bother.

I was in LA with my mother last September (am Europoor). My mother insists on fueling up the car later at night and out of nowhere some Chicano pops up behind us with a kid in his arms and 2 more in his minivan. Says he can't afford gas.
I try to ignore him but my Italian mother decides to go on a rant he could be saving money if he stopped fucking his wife without condoms and she'll buy him some to stop idiots like him from reproducing. I did this with a black dude who asked for a ride to get gas and I said "FUCK OFF" it was late in winter and he did have a gas can but I live alone with no neighbors so he spooked me.

I enjoy getting the best deals. It's a hobby. I don't mind browsing stores and farmers markets for local produce, specially love to buy from producers with cash (no taxes). I always read the leaflets with offers from all the big chains, and get the best stuff at each place. I even do the shopping for my parents. It's likely, even for 3 persons, I don't save that much, proably no more than 10pct than if I just bought whatever at the closest store, which comes to around 60 eur a month. Anyway I'm a NEET and I have too much free time anyway.
