MKE is definitely the most sensible MP5 option currently on the market. At this point I don't know why someone would buy PTR or Zenith. They're substantially more expensive than MKE, not necessarily any better made, and don't have the chance of HK. An unhappy medium as far as I can tell.

1. OP posted a PTR, which is US made, not Turkish.
2. There's no practical reason to buy an HK. If you want one for the cache/collector/resell value, fine. But in terms of actual use it just doesn't make sense.

They actually bought their tooling from a Portugese manufacturer that was producing HK licensed G3s. Portugal was moving away from the G3, and PTR bought their old tooling. I'm not sure that PTR actually bought any MP5 specific tooling, but if you can make G3s it's not a big leap to make MP5s.

Not exactly. HK was importing a civilian variant of the G3, the HK91, until George Bush (senior) signed an executive order banning the importation of "non-sporting" rifles. HK basically said "fuck it" and left the US market. PTR bought the Portuguese tooling to fill the G3 void that HK left. I'm not sure when they started making MP5s, but it's relatively recently compared to their G3 (PTR-91) line.
