Switch to coding. I left electrical engineer and I am happy that I did that. Conventional engineering is full of boomers with paid off houses who are happy making $130k/yr. They will choke before they give you a raise close to $100k because it took them 10 years to break six figures. Engineers, especially young ones, are worked to the bone and then tossed out as soon as the project is done. And, as you know, engineers can be real dicks

I went with python and cloud. I am so happy. I hope you make it through, engie bro

I’ve wasted 5 years of my life on this shit
At this point I’m gonna start my own business rather than throwing away all my years of uni and experience just to jump ship and be a noobie at computer science. It’s possible in my field at least.. since what I do is mundane

Go overseas.
There’s a lot of US companies building shit overseas for the government. You’ll at least get 100k, they’ll pay your rent, and you won’t pay federal taxes if you stay out like 11 months a year.
The more fucked up the place, the better.
And you’re in luck, there’s a bunch of shit getting built in Africa.

Fellow gear tard here. I got into auto mechanics for almost 5 years, thought I’d enjoy it. Shit sucks, bad. Used good references and hand tools background to land apprentice low voltage tech job, went from 19 to 19.75 starting union position with guaranteed raise of 2.50 every 6 months for four years. Ended up leaving that job after applying for a low voltage technician job with a major railroad. Went from making 19 at the start of Covid to now making over 39 hourly. Keep doing what you’re doing, fix up that resume, and apply for jobs that fit your skill set that seem enjoyable. Best of luck

The key is to switch jobs when offered since you get a way higher % salary then compared to staying at the same company for years on end. The even better option is to start your own business and hire out yourself to companies on a contract basis for doing the same work which can net you 2-3 times the amount of money.

Relatable. I had to leave engineering for IT to get a decent raise and only got that job out of luck/connections. About to start my BSCS degree and try to get an even bigger raise by switching to something software/cloud related.
You might be able to get into technical sales. Even in LCOL area, 65k is bullshit

I make 70k + 4-7k in bonuses remotely with a mechE degree but I work in telecom. I'd like to move on but not like anywhere I move is a big enough pay jump. Looking for my boss to promote me to a senior position soon which might bump me into a six figs position which would be nice although then I gotta wrangle the other tards on top of my own work so who knows? I'd be gone if I was back to office. But I set my address to my mom's home so if they decide to force me back I can fall back on "I moved 3 hours away" and then they can't deny me unemployment.
