Here's the thing.
The UK has gone mad through its rise and fall and is currently attempting to turn itself into an Indian person to make itself feel better about being itself.
France is also the same and currently trying to turn itself African to feel better.
Germany is trying to become a Turk to make itself feel better in a similar but distinct fashion. Anatolians are the opposite of Germans. Germans got too anal about their own national identity, whereas Anatolians care so little for their own identity that for a millennia or so they pretended to be Greek, and then after that they started to pretend to be Central Asian steppe nomads.
Spain on the other hand is so far gone from the guilt and shame and can't start to rebuild.
