KEK! Yeah, no, those get triggered in microseconds once NYMEX opens at 8am. If you can't see semi-regular dips to buy and rips to sell in that chart then I just don't know what to tell you. I start new positions on the smaller dips and add to them the lower they go while having *something* in place to catch the upside if it winds up not diving deeper that time. I always build as if it *will* drop more though, keeping plenty of dry powder on the ready for stuffing up under the ceiling I started with. One can, if course, just sit around waiting for a bottom they think they can time, but you can wake up to watch the bus leaving you behind one morning doing that. If you spend enough time watching it you'll form a reasonably expectable idea of the ranges and work it accordingly while always being aware that those ranges have pretty soft borders that are easily obliterated. It's dangerous fuckin' shit but if you work it with caution/respect as I suggest then it's an incredible trading instrument.

Hope you have it set to S&P investment and not with bonds unless you're in 40s. Bonds take a schlaggering currently as rates have rosen so much. They might become a buy.. but if you dont have control over 401k investments then I wouldn't start having it buy bonds until you're in 40s and 10 years from retirement. The idea being you buy bonds to protect yourself from a severe market turn down at retirement allowing your bonds to roll off to take as a distribution instead of being forced to draw down the growht portion fo the 401k.
