I interpret this in the complete opposite way, none of the chip companies disclosed that a ton of their orders are coming from Chinese co's desperate to stockpile chips before they get region banned from buying the latest devices. That's a lot of pull forward in demand, and also means the Chinese stockpiling has accounted for a significant portion of orders lately (if all NVDA chips then that's 70% of their 1Q sales). So what happens when the bans kick in and/or the Chinese stop stockpiling? Interest in AI is already on the decline, or so it seems.

Ok let me get this straight. We have a situation where the Chinese tech giants are buying way more chips than they need in the near-term, explicitly because they are worried about a ban. As you say, maybe they are wrong and a ban never comes. But there are two fundamental possibilities:

1) Chip ban comes. A big current source of revenue for NVDA and others is turned off overnight, and it becomes apparent that much of their recent success has just been from Chinese fear buying
2) A ban doesn't come, Chinese tech is sitting on a fuckload of chips they don't need and end up with a glut

I fail to understand why Chinese tech, who are explicitly buying more than they need now out of fear that they'll run short of chips in the event of a ban, would buy MORE chips if it turns out there is no ban and they're sitting on a ton of chips they do not need. FWIW I view this as the fatal flaw of the EU that will eventually be its demise, and it may already be well on the way there. It is asinine to think you can apply a single one-size-fits-all monetary policy to countries of wildly different kinds of economies. The monetary policy that is good for Greece at any one moment will be very different from the monetary policy that is good for Germany, or for Italy, or for Spain, or for France. Their economies are all fundamentally different with different challenges.
