Yes, but not as a primary job. "Programmer" is like "scribe". Ironically, while the job-market for programmers is shit, the knowledge of how to use computers in general is also being lost in wider society.

no coding is saturated and now it's no better than any other boring white collar job, salaries have returned back to reality and most people are back in the $60k range

But the new in thing is being a UPS driver yeah, it's been all over the news. Soon those policies will likely infect fedEx and Amazon drivers as well so ironically get ready for "learn2CDL" very soon. I mean 200k TC for driving jobs is incredible. Amazon will absolutely try to one up UPS to attract drivers over there so I can see them going 200k TC

learn2code was intentionally oversaturated by the large tech companies like google/ibm/microsoft/etc as a way to drive wages down and limit your bargaining power for a pay raise. you are now just another dispensable statistic to them since they now have hundreds of thousands of other half literate codemonkeys to choose from. you are just a stopgap until they have ai capable enough to competently do this job, and that will be done once the hundreds of thousands of half literate code monkeys keep pumping in their curriculum into their LLMs and teaching it for free. you can still get a job as a secretary or maybe a data analyst but unless you are an actual coding wizard who has been doing it since he was like 5 years old and has a firm understanding of math you dont stand a chance of getting a job as a software enginner/developer.

True enough, though there's still the problem of the labor market being squeezed by AI. Even if it takes away only, say, 10% of the market, that's an upward pressure: the junior admit writing scripts tries to become a Java programmer, the Java programmer tries to be come a tech lead, the tech lead tries to get into academia. It's like pushing a spring down.

No, skilled developers are struggling to find work, and more and more kids keep graduating with CS degrees to continually dilute the pool of potential employees. If I were a kid now I would get into finance or medicine.

Moving up that ladder is different than just hitting buy on a shitcoin. It takes real skill, and the fact is that only 0.1% of the population can pull off being a principal software engineer. It takes hard and soft skills, and generally just being experienced in how business works.
People on the first handful of rungs likely will just not be able to climb further up, and the AI tsunami will wash them away. The true talent will remain, and rake in fat wads of cash while slowly replacing themselves with better and better AI, until it's good enough to replace them too. At that point though, we're post-information. The only thing that matters then is capital ownership.

>Moving up that ladder is different than just hitting buy on a shitcoin.
It is, but don't try to look at it as some shitcoin buyer jumping straight to principal engineer. Everyone only has to move up a single rung: the team lead is maybe not the most-qualified product owner, but the people below him are overrunning the field, so he tries to move up one rung, and maybe he'll be an ok product owner.
There are people who can't even move up one rung, that's true too, but there are many who can. It's like a sinking island: when the water comes, some people can't make it from the shore to the forest, but the forests still get more cramped. People then start fleeing from the forests into the hills too, and now it's even more cramped. At each turn, some people who aren't immediately threatened by the waters still also choose to migrate upward: some maybe from the forest to the hills straight away, and maybe some people in the hillside to the mountain, just at the sight of seeing others fleeing in their direction.

Depends on the area you want to work in.

Web development? Lmao, good luck earning more than a gas station attendant.

Mobile dev? Still pretty shit.

Enterprise software? Decent

Data science? Still gold imo, and will be for years to come.

Luckily you actually need some math skills for the last one, don't ever need to be worried about code monkeys jumping in and saturating my niche.

learn to code as a skill to do whatever you currently do better, if you interact in any way with a computer for your job then you can find a way to automate or otherwise generally do your own job better. From an outsider perspective of tech it also seems like you can skate by pretty easily knowing the most basic shit about databases and ETL and make a pretty fat buck just building reporting for boomer small-business especially in manufacturing.
