>If it's none of those things then what do you do that an average person could not?
The average person can't self identify and sell themselves as a PM.

On a deeper level, they can't technically describe or say how they would organize a logical process, even if they aren't going to be the one building it out.

Simply being able to articulate your thoughts in regards to technology and organize is a valuable skill.
Then you just have to study stuff like pricing psychology for just a day.

Take the PM pill if you aren't a pajeet coder that needs a visa or 140 IQ+ where coding gets easy. Most guys I know are too proud to make the switch. They don't even like coding or the associated lifestyle, but feel like they have something to prove so they stick it out. Just look at the body of the average PM vs avg SWE. It's way better because instead of doing OP's picrel, they can take care of themselves

>has zero actual interest in or passion for ocmputers, comp sci, programming, etc.

the worst demand ever placed on him was sometimes having to go in or log in remotely at night if his senior colleague was sick and something went wrong with an overnight job (all mainframe stuff has to be literally scheduled by an operator - they still use these retarded ancient systems)

I used to be a SWE and wondered the same thing. I figured that instead of seething about PMs seemingly getting paid roughly the same for not doing anything, I'd just join the team.
If what I'm describing sounds like "what you do as a software engineer, but without coding"....that's accurate in many cases.
Many SWEs are essentially expected to PM their own product, so you likely have the skillset. It's the role you go for if you want to talk about technology but not be the one to actually build it.

There's a big difference between barely working and never working. PM feels like the latter; SWE the former

When you say talk about the tech do you actually mean talk about the domain? I don't see PMs talking about tech but they do try to piece parts of the domain together. For example I work for a fintech and they talk about different payment rails, and how our products serve them. But I don't ever see them talking about anything related to how we can implement them (tech)

It can vary widely. The domain knowledge would be one though. For me, I do SRE product management, so the product is quite technical and the customer is too

>>55769438
>If PMs are actually supposed to be talking about tech then holy shit my PMs are skating by
Formal and informal expectations vary widely. And then there is pure performance, beyond the expecations. To me, the best PMs are going to be able to discuss technology, have an idea of what is possible (both theoretically and with their specific team of engineers which almost certianly have limitations), and use that breadth of knowledge to lay out product changes worth the effort.

you can get by as a PM without really cracking that formula though

Making money is like losing weight. You aren't going to lose weight eating like a retard and piling up an unsustainable exercise regimen. You aren't going to make money spending like a retard and piling on unsustainable "side hustles." It's not about doing MORE it's about doing LESS. Less eating, less spending.

Stop eating McDonalds. Stop buying $1000 cellphones. If you weigh 300 lbs, stop eating. If you have $5000 in credit card debt, stop spending.

I'm a SWE making $250k at my job, have two kids in diapers, and I am literally doing this. I am currently trying to bootstrap my own SaaS product to escape wagedom but I am struggling on a legitimate product idea. I have a whole functioning app but no use case. I am only surrounded by pajeets at work (im white) and my wife + kids who have no idea how to help generate a product. This is hell.
