I'm sure there's other jobs that might be better, but I enjoy mine. I also don't have a college degree, so an operator in the chemical/pharmaceutical is probably the biggest paycheck I can get without becoming a business owner or win the lottery.

Financial industry = Push overpriced stocks and funds onto ignorant clients who don't know better, or sit at a computer all day trading the same 10 stocks.

Accounting = Sit at a computer all day doing taxes, or auditing financial documents from other companies.

At least with the Medical field you get to deal with the added stress of dealing with gang members and homeless drug addicts walking in and out of your building causing problems.

I do have a way to make your boring job less boring though

First of all you're right to notice that the modern world has stripped all the best parts away that made work tolerable: being in a community with people you know (and are genetically related to) with whom you can laugh and joke and work together with on a mostly physical IRL job that actually does something for other people

But while you're stuck in this soulless makework hellscape you might as well enjoy it until the complex systems collapse comes lol, whether that's now or in 1000 years

Anyway the way to make your life better is to meditate
Even the ancient traditions teach this
To meditate is basically to sit in a room alone (in as silent a place as you can find at first) and focus your awareness on one thing only
You can focus on your breathing, on the patterns which come before your eyes when they're closed, or anything singular really
I myself focus on an imaginary point which sits almost directly in front of my face, and indeed sometimes it can be hard to get that point to even sit still
Whenever your mind wanders, do not force your thoughts let them go and bring them back to the focus of your attention

This process will essentially make you more "awake" during the rest of your waking life, and give you better sleep as well
This will allow you to think clearly, be less impulsive, less reactive, more able to acknowledge and dismiss your emotions as needed by the situation and feel happy about it
Most people stumble around through life as in a half-drunken stupor, very similar honestly to the way you feel, by degrees, still technically awake and somewhat aware but not having all your faculties with you when you're intoxicated

But you must do it every day
Try doing it for 10 minutes at a time at first, then increase it day by day up to an hour if you can

When your parents told you "you can be anything you want to be!" they were lying to you, at least with respect to work. You can't do whatever you want, you can only do what other people are willing to pay you to do and that falls into two categories: 1. things they don't want to do because it is too boring, dangerous, disgusting, etc.; and 2. things they can't do because they lack the skills, intelligence, talent, vision, etc. Only a very few people make a living doing something they really like doing. Chances are you will not be one of the lucky few. So instead of looking for something you like to do, look for something you CAN do that others are willing to pay you to do. Then get really good at it so you can buy the time to do what you really want to do for yourself.
