You have Layer 1 coins, which run on their own chain (ETH, SOL, BTC, etc.)

Then you have Layer 2 tokens which run on the each one of those chains ($MATIC, $ORCA, inscriptions, etc.)

Wrapped tokens are cross-chain Layer 2 tokens. so whenever they get swapped for a different layer, they are burned, then reminted on the next Layer 1, as a (Wrapped-Layer 2 token) so the amount never changes.
