Yes, they're real. However you are investing your time and effort on nothing more than a hope. Still, if done efficiently, the rewards will be vastly greater than your investment.
The trouble is they're not going to happen every other week. You basically get 2 or 3 big ones per year. We already had Arbitrum, chances are LayerZero will drop this year and maybe ZkSync will as well but it sounds like it's more likely to happen in the new year.
If L0 hasn't dropped by middle of October however, it's probably not happening until the new year as well. If it drops too close to Christmas, like 10 weeks either side, then people will just sell it for presents and holidays or to replenish their savings from the presents and holidays they spent their money on.

If you're referring to MEXC exchange, anon, then you're simply referring to MX tokens, not MXC tokens. You need to hold those to be eligible for their airdrop. It's simple. People are making it complicated.

Things are evolving; no project would want to do that again unless they decided to go with the same root arb took for their token airdrop. It's quite difficult now to see such freebies. In some ways they sort of need to. The SEC are climbing up the asses of protocols that have raised nine figures and then turn around and try to sell a token on top of that which is why they give it away a free instead. So unless the SEC backs off which they aren't known for or someone comes up with a better way to get tokens into circulation then airdrops will keep happening. But yeah some might hold off until the market takes off again.

One of the biggest mistakes of most /biz/tards is that they don't do anything but buy old shitcoins on Binance and then do nothing but pray it magically goes up 1000x from there. Which is why everyone here just bitch and moaned merely watching from the sidelines during the bull run as people outperformed them every day with various airdrops, farming protocols and NFTs.

Just start using whatever new decently promising marketplaces, protocols and dApps you see pop up with a burner wallet, not your main wallet. play around with like 0.2 ETH with a few transfers, deposits, trades, mints etc. That's how you get in these airdrops, or how you make money from some NFTs, or how you make money in various farming protocols etc. don't just buy shitcoin #54382 and pray, otherwise you'll just keep seething from the sidelines forever.

It was due to SEC. it was reported that Hart received over 2.3 million Ether, which was worth about $678 million at the time, in exchange for Hex tokens.

The SEC alleges that Hart and PulseChain misused at least $12.1 million of the investor funds for personal expenses, such as purchasing a 555-carat diamond, expensive watches, and luxury cars, instead of using them for developing and marketing the PulseChain network.

Can't really speak to that, but I know in the case of LayerZero a lot of the projects are expected to use their token as the currency on their validator nodes. Project Essence is a big one in that regard and that's looking to launch later this year, so I can't imagine they'll be too happy if they're all ready to make money but still waiting around on this token.
As for the SEC, they tend to keep coming after companies, crypto and non-crypto, until they either get what they want or a judge tells them in no uncertain terms to fuck off. Crypto is still in such a grey area that it'll keep happening until there's solid international regulation that everyone agrees on.
