>> No.55698513

There are a few stocks I am looking into that are really overvalued companies potentially misleading shareholders. A lot of these stocks are pharma companies but /smg/ doesn't like to talk about pharma because its pretty domain-specific and you need to know FDA approval lingo / biostatistics.

But there are some pretty interesting non-pharma shorts that I have. One of them is CELH. An energy drink company that is straight up doing accounting fraud and is under a Going Concern from their auditor.

Another dogshit scam company is ENVX. I don't even know where to begin with this one. Battery company that claims to have deals with the military but they actually don't. ENVX batteries straight up are impossible to manufacture at scale and the stock is being bid up by stock pumpers who literally went to jail (Google who Gregory Reyes is...he's a big ENVX promoter on twitter).

>> No.55698528

There are a bunch of pharma companies I like as shorts. So many that I'm not even going to bother listing out most of them. But one of the easier-to-grasp shorts I have in the pharma space is AXSM.

AXSM's drug Auvelity is already approved, but the drug is really fucking stupid. This drug Auvelity is meant to treat Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). The drug is a combination of DXM cough syrup (yes you read that correctly) and Bupropion, an antidepressant.

The drug works because bupropion potentiates the impacts of DXM, getting the patient high as fuck.

The company is super overvalued because the market is pricing the stock as if the company is going to have prescribers and formularies at hospitals buying the drug Auvelity left and right. That is not the case. No pharmacies want Auvelity. No hospitals want Auvelity. The drug is stupid and dangerous and gets patients high as fuck. No psychiatrist should ever prescriber their patient Auvelity.

Short AXSM.

yes, this time is different, history is always different in details but not in kind. the selloff won't be because of the ai hype bubble bursting or the systemic corruption of the banking system finally coming to light or some pandemic, it'll be something else unrelated and unpredictable that just coincides with the weakening economy and starts a cascade. i think it's most likely to occur when the pivot happens.

The best solution to depression might be unironically shrooms. It downmodulates the equivalent of Freuds "ego" in the human body called the default mode network. The DMN essentially the conductor of the brain, using our collection of experiences to make connections in our brain. This occurs during depression where the DMN reinforces connections that lead to depressive feelings. Shrooms turn the DMN off allowing you to create entirely new connections. DMN comes back on and those new connections then can help provide alternatives to depression spirals. Current treatment with shrooms for depression involves talk therapy and music, but I think even better would be new experiences while on shrooms. I wish food/cooking was better on shrooms but the feeling is a little too intense.

So let me get more granular with my AXSM short thesis: Auvelity is being prescribed for first line MDD treatment. That makes no sense because no fucking psychiatrist on this planet is going to give an MDD patient this strong ass NMDA receptor antagonist as first line tx.

It will be TRD (Treatment Resistant Depression) aka third-line treatment. This means the TAM for Auvelity is way smaller than the market is pricing it. That means the stock price of AXSM should go down.

I don't know if shrooms are good for you or not, but they're not harmful physiologically at all. And they make for a really fun bonding experience and can revitalize relationships. On the other hand, bad shroom trips can ruin someone's life and if you're predisposed to certain mental illnesses, then psychedelics like shrooms can be outright harmful for your pscychiatric state.

It's pretty fucking legal though. I went to a friend's birthday a few weeks ago in a park (Golden Gate Park in SF so this literally the local culture) and she had psilocybin chocolates that she purchased online that were totally legal. And those things really were strong, like 1.5 mg equivalent of psilocybin from the chocolate bar got you tripping off your ass. But a good trip.

I've taken LSD way more than shrooms in my life and I think LSD is actually potentially very harmful. LSD = schizo stimulant trip
Shrooms = peaceful gorilla trip

But the army deal is worth $600K. Rodgers also admits that ENVX are manufacturing batteries manually, with 160 (!!) workers manning the production line.. so that’s about 1200 watch batteries ($1200 of revenue) per worker per year?

Anything Cohodes and Reyes are long is a pump and dump. Like the list of tickers they do this to is endless.
APPH was the "play" they had before this.

I'm new to the Reyes character (he's a nutcase) but Cohodes has literally been known for being publicly visible basket case for a while now. Everyone who is legit on Wall St. has distanced themselves from him. Remaining being QCM / Gabriel Grego. I hope Grego is still not friends with Cohodes.

QCM is one of the best activist short sellers out there imo.

Cohodes is occasionally worth listening to for his short ideas. He tends to never be first but he tends to pick "winners" with his shorts. I do not understand why he is always diving into Reyes pump and dumps. It could be because that is the only fellow Gen X that will give him the time of day.

They have been touting that contract as much bigger than it is for almost a year. They were supposed to have been at volume back in Q4 2021.
>The "its a scam you can't make batteries that are long lasting and don't blow up because uhhhhhh pee pee poo poo" is not an argument.
There are thousands, and I mean thousands, of "battery tech" ideas out there that die at the factory lines. And many more every week. There are few industries which are as capital intensive that don't involve digging holes in the ground yourself. The big boys in the space are as difficult to take space from as trying to start your own international oil conglomerate today. Because the margins are absolutely horrendous unless you are at economic sector provider level of output.
For the past few years I have been amazed at how consistently battery memes (usually paired with green energy memes) consistently sucker retail into them.
Let me put it like this. TSLA has flirted with a 1T market cap and after a decade of posturing otherwise their energy and battery sectors are rounding errors in their financials and they just straight up buy all of their batteries (and battery tech) from panasonic.
As a trade, ENVX could be interesting to the right degen gamblers. IIRC Cohodes cost basis is ~$22 so that could be considered a key level for trading. But the company has very good odds of just being another APPH.

You're really overestimating the effect of this. Hardly anyone has died from COVID vaccines and almost nobody outside of /pol/ thinks they did. Again, touch grass, go and talk to real people, nobody is selling PFE because of COVID vaccine injuries they aren't even liable for. The share price isn't going down because there are a few thousand fewer customers for a gigantic multinational pharma company that has thousands of products on the market. That is pure "correlation = causation" and confirmation bias.
You unironically made a bet that happened to be correct this time. I'm glad you made some money but putting it down to you knew the market would sell PFE because /pol/ was right and all the vaxtards are dying is fucking dumb. Stock price moves down when investors are willing to sell for less than the current price. Have you considered that maybe people sold a stock with a beta of 0.58 because they wanted to reallocate into big tech?

thinking of abandoning my schwabe target date fund in my 401k and just dropping bonds entirely. Only real reason. 37 years is a long ass time, does it really make sense to have bond exposure? Bond rates still aren't high enough to be playing them for the interest rate. Most are looking for price appreciation of long term bonds when the central bankers start dropping rates again which most is treating as an eventual inevitability.

Bonds aren't as bad in 2023 as they were in 2023. The yield on bonds is actually higher now than the P/E implied forward return of the S&P. Up to you what to do with your 401k but my point is bonds are no longer completely indefensible as a portfolio component. Personally I find it easier to just have my 401k be set-and-forget so I can focus on my main account.

I'm a 43 YO boomer, with 200k in MY 2045 TDF, I am actually thinking about moving into a 2030 or 2035 fund to increase my bond exposure. Since I think JPow is about done raising rates. And if we hit a recession, and he cuts rates, those bonds will go up in value, easing the pain. But Vanguard says stay the course. And over a long horizon it works. I got at least a decade, probably two left to accumulate, and recover from any bumps along the way.

most 401ks offer the Vangaurd Total Market Index. On one hand, I don't want to tell you to start DCAing at what could be a market top soon™ (I know two more weeks, we have been calling the top for months on end, but muh earnings compression and resurgent inflation blah blah) but really that is the single best offering available to you in my opinion.

Target funds are a mixed bag. On the one hand they're stupid cheap (1000 upfront; then on the cost of one share depending on the day) for getting the whole global economy. On the other you need to do a bit of math and see if the year on the fund aligns with the year you want to fuck off from work for the rest of your life. Also in exchange for doing the allocation swap over time the performance v.s just the S&P is lower so less gains over time per dollar invested. But then again if say the market takes a massive shat in the decades to come those bonds will help out. All in all I guess for a set it and forget thing and for the cheap costs you can't really go wrong if you get the year timing right. Just make sure you do the math on your retirement income projections with the expectation of getting 6% a year instead of 10% as you would a S&P only fund. You don't want to get to retirement only to see you've got a shortfall in income.

Ex: Say John Bob Smith invests in a 30 year target fund. He invests the initial 1000 upfront money. Then on he tosses in 100 a month. @ 6% growth a year for 30 years that comes out to be just $106,400. Uh yeah. You would have to toss in 1000 a month in order to have over 1 million after 30 years @ 6%.

Yes. A lot of people don't do the math on these or other investments. They just toss in the bare minimum and go on. Then once retirement comes they're fucked when they see that piss poor amount of money. Now granted anything is better than nothing and sometimes you can only do so much but you've got only yourself to blame if you don't plan ahead to.

So what do you guys think? Drop the target fund, go 70/30 VTSAX + VXUS (or whatever I got that's similar?) I've got other assets in other places, so it's not like I see myself tapping into my 401k. Honestly if I am having to tap into my 401k, then I doubt anything I choose today is gonna matter.

I could do 95% equities and 5% bonds I guess. I thought maybe once I turn 30, I could add 1% of bonds every year until I turn 50 or something, then maybe from there I get more aggressive with bonds unless the market is in the toilet.

Not drop it. Just gotta be realistic as to what your return on it will be over time. If you've got other assets and know you'll be covered after retirement then you don't have to pump every spare dime into it in order to get something worth it for the time/effort. Another thing is due to recent 401k laws passed by congress you don't have to tap the 401k till your 75 now if you don't need to. So that's 15 more years of free growing time.

It doesn't seem like a bad long term hold, and on the 5 year chart is *looks* to be at a breddy decent entry *assuming the historical trends continue as they have*.
BUT
>BUT
BUT
I figure there are simply much better choices instead. TSN and GIS come immediately to mind (for long term holds, not moon goombling). There are many others I could list that I recently began holding but sold quickly when a good opportunity showed up for
NATGAS
>NATGAS
NATGAS
and I needed all of my funds immediately freed. One thing I'd done to find a good many of them was use a screener looking for tickers within 10% of their 52 week lows, with overwhelming buy/hold ratings by analysts, and no higher than 25 p/e (with an ultimate picking bias being 15 or less). Anyway, I reckon I'd pass and go with something else, but it doesn't look bad at all, and it's easy af to find worse.
