hey friends
malding moron here
I work for a company that has had a basically static share price for the last decade, at around $30. I get RSUs as part of my compensation. I am very financially illiterate and have approximately $60k worth of RSUs (or at least, I did). A couple of months ago the price was up around $34, and I had resolved to sell a bunch and invest the proceeds into a broad index fund.

However being the moron that I am, I neglected to do it and got heemed HARD recently. The first time, another company in the same space announced poor results and my company stock took a hit too (down to $29). Today my company had its earnings call and certain earnings were down YoY basically missed guidance. After hours, the stock is down nearly 10% to $27. On paper I have lost a ridiculous amount of money. Again, financially illiterate and generally incompetent.

So what the fuck do I do? Do I cut my losses and sell or sit pretty and pray it goes back up to $30+ in the near future?

their core portfolio excluding AI is actually perfectly fine, i dont have anything to say about the push for AI. imo the problem is customers, like when other big tech companies reduce spending they opt to forego upgrading their network infrastructure and so on, so that makes me think potentially risky situation.

at the end of the day, juniper is like cisco, nokia, arista, etc. they make the software and hardware that drive the internet. i actually think there's a stat out there where juniper routers literally forward most of the internet traffic on the planet. but being financially illiterate i dont know what real risks there are for the stock staying down over a very long horizon.

i mean, ive actually always been confused as to why its never broken past its $30 avg, whereas other similar companies have. it feels like any negative news, whether its for the company in terms of revenues or if its for adjacent companies like cisco or whatever, cause the stock to drop very very quickly. and then over the next few months it corrects but never really breaks through

Another day. Nipped my credit card balance in the bud. Shifted the whole thing onto another card with zero interest for a year. No fee either. Also have 6 months of zero interest payments on any purchases I make. Which hey I do need new tires on the car soon. No more "Shat Happens" things on the list for the foreseeable future so I can dump money at the credit card principle at will and bag stocks now till July 2024 before interest kicks in fully.

Buy 10k of physical gold/silver in whatever ratio pleases you. Start buying TLT with the rest when it's in the low 90's and buy some more if/when it dips under 90. Finishing buy if you have cash left once it can hold over the 200 day moving average or fed starts buying again. You'll be investing like a boomer in no time, and don't worry, if treasury bonds blow out beyond that then everything is fucked so you'll maybe appreciate the precious metals.

yeah here's the thing. if yields continue to go up. then duration means price goes down big. and if you are locked up in long-duration treasuries... then you have to wait until AFTER the fed lowers rates to poomp eet. instead of being able to get prime cheapies with cold hard cash redeemed from short-duration treasuries held to maturity. Also in general, if you need cash for unrelated reasons - it's a lot less locked up with short duration.

Rocker my family owns a lot of real estate and when you keel over dead on that couch from an apparent imminent heart attack which is what your face looks like, it’s not a good look when people have to find you. There was once a tenant story my dad told me about one tenant who was found dead on his couch in surroundings such as yours and they see and catalog everything laying around your domicile and dead body. They even have the coroner and forensic teams come in and take pictures of your dead body and all your surroundings and document them for years.

Just think about it.

So the other day (last night?) I did a divination for the overall state of "The Market". I would like to stress that drawing all cards of the same suit can be considered a strong omen, all of them being named cards of the Major Arcana, doubly so.

>Subject: Death - Inertia, sleep, lethargy or petrifaction, or somnambulism (sleepwalking)
>Context: The High Priestess - Secrets and mystery
I interpret this as the market itself being slow and sluggish, or being in a state of disagreement. For example, bulls are enjoying the current rally but bears suggest it won't last. People say housing is in a bubble and FA is irrelevant. We are unsure how high Fed rates will go, the yield curve is inverted, and there is debate about whether we're in a recession or one will be coming.

>Event: The Magician - Physician, Magus, mental illness, disgrace, disquiet
I interpret this as people being uneasy with the markets and the economy for various reason.

>Action: The Hanged Man - Wisdom, trials, discernment, sacrifice, divination
I read this as either personal wisdom/discernment, eg selecting only high quality stocks, having a proper portfolio, managing risk effectively. If you're an active trader, not blowing up your account. Being hedged for drawdowns, that sort of thing.
In the context of the markets themselves, it will undergo various events. Discernment here can refer to the Fed rates (eg Powell looking at whatever metrics for inflation), or sacrifice as in the sense of certain sectors or jobless rates need to be brought down for the health of the market.

>Result: The Chariot - Riot, quarrel, dispute, defeat
Something will probably break. This reading does not indicate what or why.

Anyways, this is just for fun. Hopefully it will give you some investment ideas. Seriously, manage your risk no matter what the market is doing

Bonus reading I did tonight on the topic of "Sectors":

>Three of Cups - Plenty, perfection, merriment, happiness, victory, fulfillment, solace, healing
>Two of Swords - Imposture, falsehood, duplicity, disloyalty
I think the most obvious reading here is probably the health/pharmaceutical sector, and the cards imply a downturn

>Page of Cups - Message, application, reflection, meditation, business
>Eight of Swords - Disquiet, difficulty
This feels like tech sector, perhaps AI or social media, and will face some hurdles soon

Long term trend is heavily bearish. We see a rejection at the 200 MA's today. Unfortunately the IV is elevated, in part due to upcoming earnings. That of course can be minimized with a bear put spread or something similar. Lot of options movement today. The entire options chain previously had 0 open interest at any strike (04 Aug expiration). Thousands of of calls and puts opened, with a heavy bullish lean.

TLT is a good choice tho if you are looking to boomer invest. It's the late cycle classic and it's already beaten down badly so your downside is limited. Also because they can't allow treasury yields to run like that. 2011 low of about 88 on TLT is the floor I'm thinking and beyond that we open pandora's box, which would most likely bring the fed buying because very bad things happen otherwise.
The reason they raised rates so rapidly is because they want room to drop them back down and attempt another "V-shaped recovery" like in 2020. May not work out but they'll try it and bond prices will go up. That's what you want, price not yield. Bonds can go up just like stocks.

Yeah eating out is just not worth it anymore really. Fucking chipotle is like $11 a burrito now and compared to other garbage that’s a good deal. Every time I go to McDonald’s I end up spending $15+. Shit has gotten out of hand so what little dining out I did is pretty much over now. I’d much rather buy some steaks at Costco and grill than spend the same amount at McDonald’s on a couple McDoubles

I don't get it. It says they aren't doing a thing and at the same time say something about 1% and being more flexible. But "news" say no tweak, wtf?

It's a subtle rate hike, but exclusively for their long term rates. Unlike our federal reserve, the BoJ has target yield trading ranges for various durations.

Yes, I read about the difference. But news say "no tweak" but they still expanded the range to 1%. Isn't that a tweak? Or is it none cause it's not set, but "flexible"?

I have some 6.50 CSPs on DISH that expire next week.
I wanted to close them just before earning but it's already down $300. Should I just bite the bullet or ride this out and wheel it into CCs if assigned?
Yes, I am asking for financial advice.

Fuckinnn' bro, this is just the start of a new longer trend. Old people from Asian definitely just hit us out of nowhere. We didn't see Japan coming. We didn't recapitalize. Our giants of industry haven't seen this since the '90s.

This is gonna blindside. You're really right this time. I think I should come to your Christening. I meant Bar Mitzvah.
