Does dewatering incur linear or exponential cost increases as the cone of depression is deepened?

>> No.55620801

>>55620750
no fucking clue brah, I work in an underground mine as a production engineer with very little water, any free flowing water we pump out of the mine level by level by pumping it into sumps. Open pit dewatering we just roll some fucking poly straight over the edge into the pit and pump it out, I've never dealt with any aquifer related water where a cone of depression is a concern. As a guess I'd say exponential costs, as it'll be getting harder to pump as the geometry of the water table changes, but if you drill deep enough in the beginning it might be ok but there may also be a trade off with costs associated with pumping the water a greater distance.

In your experience, are scoping study cost estimates usually eclipsed by actual costs? If so, to what extent in terms of percentage? Do companies maintain different engineering cost estimates for the same project, ones released to the market and others that are confidential and in-house?

>> No.55621030

>>55620867
Depends on how honest the companies are, shitcos will makeup whatever numbers they want in scoping studies to make it seem like the project works so they can go out and raise more money for development and execs can keep raking in their salaries. In general, though I'd say actual costs are usually greater than any estimates. The main discrepancy between these studies and actual costs which has seen a lot of companies fail lately is ramp up costs mainly from infrastructure needs to meet ramp up, it costs a lot of money to build mills, roads, and also costs a lot to power and haul it all, be wary of companies quoting crazy ramp ups in production in these studies as this is where they blow their capex out.

>uranium miners

The problem is really just that the markets for the miners is completely ducked. Uranium prices are higher than they were during the uranium rally two years ago and yet the stocks are 30-50% lower. Same thing with gold and silver. Gold is almost at ath and silver is at $25. Yet the stocks are 40% down from two years ago.

It's not that we were wrong and it's not that the investment was wrong. It's that the markets are so fucked and this world is so clowned that the frustrations basically make it unbearable to invest in so disinterest has increased greatly.

I'm still invested. I just don't care as much and try not to think about it. It will all correct and we will be rewarding for making good investments. I would say within the next three months personally. We'll be at new aths in gold within the next two months. We just need that to happen so the miners can finally get the traction they need.

Same thing with uranium. Cameco is a shit company though and they will probably underperform the sector.

I think we're at absolute peak clown world right now and we're just in the complacency stage. When the shit happens in literal months that's when the violence and stuff will start but right now we're at the peak complacency stage.

Here's their action list for gold miners and producers

>We are maintaining our Overweight sector recommendation given our expectation that an interest rate easing cycle is likely to kick off within the next 12 months with positive implications for the gold price. Our top picks continue to be the names we characterize as the high quality, low-cost producers with the ability to generate free cash flow, and companies that are able to continue to grow or maintain current production levels over the medium term. However, we acknowledge higher-cost producers could outperform (given their higher leverage) in an increasing gold price environment.

Oh, here's one for Cameco, minerals and shit
>Cameco Corp.
>CCO-T: C$41.49; ACTION LIST BUY
>12-Month Target: C$51.00
>Our ACTION LIST BUY recommendation reflects our belief that Cameco is extremely well-positioned to enhance its long term uranium contract portfolio, given its ability to deliver increasing volumes of both primary uranium and conversion services into a market that is sharply focused on security of supply. With Q1/23 results, CCO reported annual average uranium deliveries under long term contract for the next 5 years of 26 million pounds — the highest level in seven years and a 5 million pound increase from Q4/22. We believe CCO's asset portfolio has optionality to deliver incremental production to support additional contracting activity, including increased production capacity at McArthur River (25Mlbs per year vs 18Mlb per year currently, 100% basis), a mine life extension at Cigar Lake beyond 2031, and the potential restart of brownfield sites in Canada and the U.S. that are currently under care and maintenance. We also expect that CCO's pending acquisition of a 49% interest in WEC will further solidify the company as a leading nuclear fuel supplier to free-market nuclear utilities. Our target price is based on a 50/50 blend of 1.6x our pro forma NAV (including WEC) and 16x our forecast pro forma 2025E adjusted EBITDA.

To play devil's advocate for a moment, there are many shitcos that have outsized gains. Look at DWAC for example, popping off like 50% today for no reason. The problem with metals and materials is that the whole sector depends on fuel prices and commodity prices, so it's hard to spot a company that will outperform (stuff like SALT comes to mind, but that performed like a pump and dump due to its initial hype).
My point is, is it worth it to deploy capital in those positions and wait, or will you get hit with an opportunity cost? Do microcap shitcos have a similar risk/reward profile to smallcap miners, for example?
For the long term, I'd probably go with a royalty company to provide income and have a few bags of smaller, weaker producers and speculations to try and capture those outsized gains. But I've learned it's also about having a robust portfolio and not losing those gains in the first place, so I've been more defensive on my positions lately

cone of depression grows with pump time t until it stabilizes when the water flowing into the well equals the water flowing out of the well. The shape of the cone depends on a number of factors including permeability, the thickness or the zone(s), fractures, pinch outs, gradational changes, fractures and more. when I worked in the geotechnical and environmental field we saw this a lot. The best retarded example I saw was a regional water agency buying extra water to pump underground for storage and a state agency pumping it out of the ground and discharging it to the storm drain because it was flooding a subgrade freeway section. It would have continued but I was working in the area and figured out what was going on and mentioned it to the water agency, who was pissed and then realized why after all the water they bought and injected why the groundwater level first rose as expected then started declining even though they were pumping more water faster.

Black lung and silicosis have extremely high prevalence rates among coal miners in Appalachia.

>West Virginia University law professor Pat McGinley, who was part of a state team investigating the 2010 Upper Big Branch mining disaster that killed 29 miners, called the resurgence of black lung “unparalleled” when it comes to occupational health failures. In the Upper Big Branch mine, 71% of the 24 miners who received autopsies were found to have black lung.

Mid August is so close that neither the FS company nor Salt management should be able to bungle this timeline up.
I wonder if they actually already have the FS and a new CEO selected, who's been going over the papers and negotiating his terms.
They do say they're going to make an announcement about this before the FS so they probably have some guy on board and it's a done deal.
Can't wait to see where this goes, would have liked to still double my position, but whatever it's good enough.

I can't claim to have confident assurance, but would guess there to be at least one more decent dip ahead. One key point that *might* have one is the contract roll starting 6th business day of August. The contract roll in and of itself should provide some bearish force, but it's also possible for it to be balanced out or even overwhelmed by some more bullish force (weather, global economic surprises, whatever). My advice, which who knows what value to place on it, is to just keep watching very carefully for opportunities to work it. I wake up every morning and watch it starting at 7am premarkets (though usually peek at it from time to time starting at a little after 4am when it starts moving but isn't tradeable). It often does some pretty wild stuff in the pre, and especially starting at 8am when the NYMEX opens. I don't know what to suggest on specific price levels because it may have reached a new floor recently, and it may still have plenty of basement room left, there's no sure thing, it's a wild bucking bronco. All of this is pretty seriously risky, but you might want to consider buying the best dip you can spot, the closer to $60 or especially bellow, the safer to buy (I presently will not even consider buying at all for any more than *maybe* $62.50) then selling the first time you see it hit maybe $75 again. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see it hit $80 before too awful long, and the peak should hit in October when it's on the January contract, but there's just no sure thing and I try to be pretty conservative with my estimates and if wild shit happens then I'll just enjoy the surprise. There's a certain amount of my expectation that thinks hitting $100 isn't too unlikely by October. But, it's crucial to understand that many of its best peaks and valleys are very momentary and you have to be watching to catch them. They are so temporary they do not even register as a tiny blip on the 3 month charts, for example. We're talking minutes and gone.

North American demand for salt is up over the last 4 years due to its use for road clearing in winter. A huge amount of that salt was coming from Egypt and other regions in Africa, but shipping costs due to covid made that prohibitively expensive if memory serves. North American salt mining though has taken up the slack to a degree, but not completely.

Should get a good amount of attention from that, let's hope it creates some sustainable buying.
This stock needs some attention and it needs to dig it's way out of this sub $2 hell.
On another note it was nice to see salt covering instead of dumping at the end of day, probably first time in months to see it go that way.
The news are so close that it would be silly to still try and suppress this.

Now if only TPR got it's shit together and gave out some info about where things are going, whether they'll even trade and stuff like that.
That might end up being even more valuable than the salt part of this stock.

>> No.55665066

>>55665021
At this point I just want something to happen with TPR. If it trades it could really run and do battle with Vortex, that hasn't proven what TPR has. If TPR gets sold imagine the money Atlas would rake in, maybe more than enough to build the mine.

>>55665066

Yeah it could easily make that mine building a trivial thing.
TPR at 1.5 bil valuation would put salt to the ATH pricing of 412 mil MC, which is a shitload of money.
If it trades I absolutely expect TPR to be worth more than 1.5 bil though, would just be a long game.

There's just one concern I have about this.
What I'm worried about is that the advisor in Vortex is a former senator and also the father of the current Newfoundland premier, which is only a small god damn conflict of interest going on here.
They're also saying their smaller domes can hold more hydrogen than TPR, which is bullshit because they haven't even drilled to be sure what they have.
Considering how the negotiations about the hydrogen storage location are well underway, there's no way in hell Vortex will be drilling anything before the winners are chosen, so it would basically be them just hoping they have enough capacity.
Imagine what happens if they win, then drill and it's proven their domes are far too small, it would fuck the entire Canadian hydrogen project and delay it.
Still I wouldn't bat an eye if aggressive misleading marketing and a relative in a right position allowed Vortex to get half of the money or even the entire damn deal meant for TPR.
We'll just have to hope the state sees through the blatant bullshit scam tactic and actually researches these properties to some extent, instead of just blindly throwing tax payer money at them as governments usually do.

I use the archive. You ain't shit nigger, you'll never be shit. Nobody gonna remember what some worthless faggot claims to say you useless bitch nigger. You are a fucking clown and not a soul here takes a word you post with even a millimeter of credence. You're the eternal newfag, shitting up everything here and in your life in general pretending to be something that's slightly less sad than your actual existence.
I hope your parents are dead so they no longer feel the same of bringing you into the world.
You can't post anything from the archive because you are to stupid to use it, have not posted anything worth archiving, and would be crushed under the weight of your own retardation if you found a relevant post.
Eventually the newnigs and lurkers will see how fucking idiotic you are and stop talking to you.

We'll have to see it's not a scam first, since it's the gooks you never know.
But we'll know soon enough as everyone with the equipment is going to be trying to replicate it.
If it's the real deal, which I really hope it is because it would be fucking amazing to have that kind of a leap in tech, then things are going to get interesting.
Imagine suddenly everything jumping to near 100% efficiency and heat not being an issue anywhere, the possibilities it opens are insane.
