If you have a sidewalk outside your house it's either controlled by an HOA or the local government. Courts have ruled that anything which looks like a sidewalk along the road is public property.
Another fun fact is that if you own a lake or beach property, the shore is almost certainly not yours to control. I'm not aware of any state or town which makes it so. People can walk practically through what feels like your back yard, and anyone can land their boat on your shore as long as they're following boating law for the area.
