fellow WFH chad here
its a dangerous comfort trap. you have to force yourself to get into a routine that gets you out of the house at some point during the day. sounds cliche, but hit the gym every other day, and on the days you don't, go for a walk in the park or something
that's how I do it.

Imagine staying inside during summer especially after work. Go for a walk, go hit some balls at the golf course, go ride a bicycle, go hiking, go to a park, go to a locals farmer market, go to a bar, go swimming, go volunteer work, go to the shooting range. Shit load of things to do. No reason to feel isolated. Quit playing vidya nerds.

Feel you OP. Making 250k sitting on my ass in my apartment doing a couple hours of work a day. I’m so fucking bored and want a different career. WFH is a trap, it’s so comfortable you never want to give it up but I really don’t think it’s good for people mentally.
I’m planning on starting my own business, I need a lot of skin in the game to give a fuck about doing work. Otherwise I’ll just slack off cuz it’s not mentally stimulating.

This guy has the right idea. If I didn’t go to the gym and for a walk/biking everyday I’d go insane, and I still kind of am going insane. But I’m too well paid and comfortable to leave.

I typically hike, fish, hunt, or just take the dogs for a walk for a few hours in the middle of the day. It’s nice but it still gets boring once it’s a routine and it’s still a bit isolating. There’s a social aspect involved with in-person work that is not replicable in remote work.

>> No.55592809

I’m overemployed, technically I have two mid level jobs, one pays $100k that I do almost nothing for, the other takes up most of my time because of shit management and that pays $150k.
The mindfuck of it all is that I know how lucky I am. But I’m honestly not happy doing it. Yeah I have a lot money coming in every month, it’s really nice not being able to worry about bills. But I promise the WFH lifestyle isn’t as good as sounds. It’s incredibly comfortable, but being comfortable doesn’t make you happy. I don’t enjoy writing bullshit software for moron roasties that don’t understand the software they’re telling me to build. I don’t enjoy corporate America on any fucking level. I’d be 100x more happy working as a teacher, professor, researcher, or some kind of manual labor job like groundskeeper or something. But all of those jobs pay like garbage, so I stay writing bullshit web apps for enterprise retards and hating myself for it. The lifestyle downgrade would be insane. That’s how they trap you in tech.

I’ve thought about that for sure. Work isn’t supposed to be “fun” and whatnot. But idk, I just feel like everything in corporate America is fucking pointless, very few companies are making the world a better place or even making genuinely cool products. It just all seems like a giant charade to give the peons something to do. Idk. I’m obviously jaded lol. I’d really like to go back to school for astronomy and work on space related tech stuff but I’d have to do a PhD and that would be 5+ years of being destitute, and probably making no money after.

I can relate. I make about half of what you do and the job is actually challenging/stimulating to an extent, but I do feel the affects of the golden handcuffs. It’s becoming hard for me to keep the routine I’d like. I’m getting high and smoking pot too early and frequently during the day. I get outside everyday, walk my dog, ride my bike, hang out on my deck, but it can get to be like watching paint dry. But I tell myself it’s better than working in a facility. I hate corporate America and water cooler talk and commuting and dressing up. Hate it. So I will continue on this path, somewhat begrudgingly I guess.

I'm in the same boat, but I've been working remote for over 15 years. The truth is that once you're good enough at what you do you can reclaim 90% + of your 'work day's and repurpose that time to doing something you want to be doing instead. I used my software and technical writing skills to start my own business, which will (hopefully) be profitable soon. I get NO fulfillment out of my work, but the ~200k a year salary is too good to walk away from until it's replaced. So find that fulfillment elsewhere; when wfh you have every freedom to do it, the only barrier is literally laziness and self motivation. I wish I'd figured it out ten years ago, but better late than never.

The other thing about remote work is to get gone from the city if you haven't already. You can live anywhere, so live in an environment that makes you happy just by going outside. It makes all the difference.
