I’m starting to put £1000 a month into a stocks and shares ISA. Started around 3 weeks ago so next transfer will be soon.

What are some good EFTs or Indexes to have in my portfolio for good return without too much risk? I’m looking at something to grow in the next year or so to help me with a down payment on a house.

So far I have 70% in iShares S&P 500 technologies and 30% in iShares Electric Vehicles.

Arm's IPO is supposed to be this year and they are the NVDA of microcontrollers so if you think edge computing will be a big arena for AI then they will be a good play. It's just the AI hype, and it's probably overinflated. People imagine a world where costs can be slashed by having AI do menial jobs like help desks, but they don't understand that current AI is not real AI. It's the equivalent of a drunk human who acts entirely on intuition and has no conscious thought. It has it's uses, but it's more of a "20% decrease in help desk workers needed since it can help 20% of customers" as opposed to a "AI will completely replace an entire sector".
The investors don't understand this yet, as usual, and are banking on the hype. It has its uses, but it's clear stocks like NVDA are overpriced for what AI actually provides. I see it as a metaverse situation except instead of zero viable product, there's a mediocre product.
