I notice all the rich people around me suddenly start to look down on things like fast food or old cars.

Anyone else wanna get rich so they can sit on their ass and play video games and eat McDonald’s? Is my lack of desires what’s causing me to be poor in the first place?

I am rich. Not Bill Gates rich but my net worth is over 30 million. I drive a 1992 Lexus LS400. I have an arcade in one of my spare bedrooms with a lot of video games from the 1980's and 1990s' (Space Invaders, Ms Pacman, Donkey Kong, Mortal Kombat, etc

I don't eat fast food not out of being a snob but I love to cook my own food. I know I am eating good stuff that way. If you saw me walking around Costco you would never think I was rich. I like to buy my clothes at the Goodwill. I buy good brands but instead of paying $120 for a Polo shirt I find one at Salvation Army for $3.99 and I love paying that over the $120.

Blowing money on status symbols will never make you happy, and it won't earn you the respect of other wealthy individuals. What brings happiness is finding your purpose in life, what makes you happy, challenges you to grow, and ideally allows you to make money. One other thing fren. You are seeing the nouveau riche that love to throw around their money and flashy items and such. These are the "all eyes on me in the club" and want everyone to know how much better they are than you. I can't stand those kind of people.

There is a 1996 book "the millionaire next door" by Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko.

The main aim of the book is to debunk the popular myths about wealth and millionaires. The authors aimed to expose the reality of how most millionaires spend, invest their money and how they got wealthy over time.

The book profiles several self-made millionaires in the United States and examines their lifestyles, habits, and attitudes towards money. It explores the principles of building and sustaining wealth from an accumulation of savings, living within your means, and investing wisely.

The authors uncovered that the majority of millionaires were not born with a silver spoon in their mouth; rather, they lived below their means and were disciplined in their spending, saving, and investing habits. They concluded that anyone can become a millionaire with the right mindset and habits, and that true wealth can be achieved by accumulating wealth over time with smart financial decisions.

So don't fall for the Kardashian trash and "all eyes on me in the club" living well beyond their means. Those poor fools will burn through their money and be broke. Instead live a disciplined lifestyle and you too can become a millionaire if you work at it.

Many from such families go live in luxury apartments in NYC and other cities far away from their family, only rarely do their parents own the building or something like that. Being wasteful with your money is frowned upon here. It shows you lack class and can't take care of yourself. Why would I pay 40$ for a breakfast that should cost 10$ if I quickly make it myself and enjoy it in my garden? I only visit metropolitan areas if there is a need, it's not a place one is supposed to live in. That's for poor people. Yes, having an apartment there is fine, but it's not for living. You don't rent it, you own it. Money is not spend on consumption, it's for investment/retaining value or quality of life improvements at most. An old care can be as comfortable as a new one. A question on American wealth. I know you as a country basically have all climates, but it's common for rich families in Europe to have estates in many different countries. this doesn't seem to be the case with Americans, which I guess is because of proximity to the same climate difference we want in Europe you have within your own borders. additionally you don't really have any good countries close to you to set up nice places in, Mexico is shit and the further south you go the further shit it becomes. Canada also seems to suck dick. So I guess I answered my own question. But it's part of what makes americans so soulless. You just stay within your own Mcborders and nothing has soul or history. God your country really is shit. I've never been to the US because I refuse to go, but just thinking about being with the soulless cattle that is americans gives me... Eg the Russian oligarch’s daughter still wants McDonald’s when she’s sloshed at 3am. But she’ll tell you to just ask your dad for money if you say you can’t afford a month long trip to Greece. I even know a few older people who made their own wealth but after a few years even they just sort of forget that regular people have bills and obligations. “You should just take a year off work to do x!” Kind of thing.

The snobbiest people I’ve met are solidly upper middle class, for sure. Probably an insecurity thing.

During the COVID crap, I accepted the fact that we have to leave the physical stuff behind after we pass away. Regardless of what happens after our bodies give out. Our property's not coming with us if the religious are right about us having souls and there being an afterlife of some kind.

That said, it depends on your family situation. If you're the last man standing in your bloodline and you can't find a decent woman to marry or at least make babies with, no. I wouldn't look down on you for being a Big Mac-munching millionaire who plays vidya all day. Because you wouldn't have heirs to pass anything down to in that situation. Why own a mansion and 18 cars if you don't become a husband and a father?

I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum as an uncle of two. When I die, I want the aftermath to be as simple as possible for my nephews. I don't want them to be overwhelmed with debt or paperwork. If anything, I want them to be overwhelmed with joy when they see my house, car, and bullion stack.

TL;DR - Spend your money however you want, but keep your family in mind when buying anything that can go up in value after you die

Fast food is shit because it is processed food, which is all shit without exception.
Old cars is quite the umbrella term, the best cars are old enough to not have electronics to avoid planned obsolescence, and have lots of parts on the markets to reduce repair price.

Playing video games is extremely cheap, since you only need to pay for the hardware and can pirate the software.
By mcdo you either refers to hamburgers, nuggets or fries, who are all extremely cheap, quick and easy to homecook.
Your dream life can be achieved for under 500-2K per year ( depending on location ).

You cannot achieve your dream life since you crave social contacts, and so feels compelled to "keep up with the Jones", which is where most of the cost of living for goylems comes from.

It's true though. Even in the way that wealth is transferred to the poor and rich from the middle class.

To add, I heard that the first generation wealth, the first time a bloodline has a whiff of any decent chunk of money is where the neuroses live. Granted they hold onto that wealth and make it grow, their children that are born into it have no such hangups. The fancy shit they have then is a personal choice, not a necessity controlled by an ego that remembers what it's like to be middle class.

In short, it's hard being new wealth if you care about any higher principles. Personally I am falling into the flaunt trap myself because all my life nobody ever took me seriously so I have to prove that I am actually a real person who can accomplish things and not a clown. This is even with knowing that becoming rich is one of the least impressive things one can do in the world. I'm still a clown in my own eyes but since other people are still dazzled by money I can at least trick them into respecting me.
