There is definitely money behind the FUD shills, they have been employed by coin dealers who want people buying silver, in particular.
They've even started making multiple threads to disrupt /pmg/ cos they couldn't use arguments and were unable to make the threads unbearable (despite a lot of effort on their part).
The only conclusion that can be drawn is that we are over the target.

Only get gems with certificates from reputable labs like GIA, IGI, lotus etc. Heating sapphires/rubies is by the why common practice and won't deduce much of it value, filling it with glass with make it almost worthless. Oiling is common with emeralds, however the degree of oiling will determine the price, the less, the better

Recently inherited these gold coins from my grandpa and have since been fantasizing about accumulating more gold. I know next to nothing about precious metals or really investing in general, but I like the shinys and think that it'd be a cool hobby and means of storing wealth long-term. Gold is hard to fake in a passable way, but buy from a reputable dealer to start until you know the ropes a bit.

Beyond that it depends what you want out of it. If you just want the economic security of bullion, buy whatever is cheapest. Maples and Krugs are good choices. Try to buy an ounce or more. Premiums start to climb with smaller sizes. If you insist on smaller amounts, look into historical Euro issues like in picrel.

If your interests are historical, nothing beats the coins in your pic and the common ones are not too expensive. If your interests are artistic, then there are many choices, like Somali Elephants, Chinese Pandas, Aussie Roos, etc.
