I come here to clarify that there's a /biz/ FUD campaign against me thinking that I created thread with 300$ gain.

Don't believe false prophets, and that's why I secured a trip.

I will never ever post without a trip about DISH.

Proof that I even posted in that thread with trip, every other ID had 1 post.

It was probably that NVDA guy who I shat on in original thread.

Screencap this post and pic related.

I said I will only post OP's with trip and not participate in threads, as I have more important things to do than screen this garbage board day by day.

Cooking other plays silently.

Whoever posts about DISH without this trip is a fake.

Daily reminder that we are headed for a major, global banking crisis
https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/commercial-real-estate-crash-prices-credit-crunch-office-demand-economy-2023-7
https://archive.is/TWenS
>Commercial real estate values are set to crater as much as 40% by 2025 in these 6 cities Capital Economics said
>San Francisco, Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, and Washington, DC.
>Morgan Stanley sees a 40% crash in commercial real estate prices, meaning the sector would suffer an even more severe downturn than it did in 2008.
The banks are all have massive losses from their bonds. Bank of America for example, $100 billion in losses on bonds
https://financialpost.com/financial-times/bank-of-america-nurses-100-billion-paper-loss-after-big-bet-in-bond-market
>Bank of America nurses $100-billion paper loss after big bet in bond market
So. You have the banks getting fucked in their assholes by the bond market. Then you have the banks getting skull fucked by commercial real estate crash. Meanwhile, the inverted yield curve killing lending profitability is pinching the banks nipples. And all this at the same time, deposits are flowing out of the banks - why keep your money in a savings account making 1% interest?
>huge bond losses
>huge commercial real estate losses
>huge lending losses
>huge deposit outflows
You have been warned. You will not listen. You will still be surprised when it happens, and you will say nobody warned you.

>I'm sure the financial industry hasn't thought about this yet
They unironically have not. All of the banks have functioned, for decades, under the (false) belief that
>Commercial real estate only goes up in value!
They structured their loans, their deals, their balance sheets around this belief. They all took excessive risks, as to them, it wasn't risky as
>Commercial real estate only goes up!
There are people discussing this outside of myself, of course.. just as there were people discussing '08 looming crisis before, too.
>Slow moving train
Only about a week ago, the Fed brought it up, asking lenders to come to the assistance of those with commercial real estate losses
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-06-29/us-asks-lenders-to-help-firms-with-commercial-real-estate-stress#xj4y7vzkg
https://archive.is/z0mea
The top US bank regulators are asking lenders to work with credit-worthy borrowers that are facing stress in the commercial real estate market.
Financial firms should “work prudently and constructively” with good clients, the government agencies said in guidance on Thursday. The statement from the Federal Reserve, Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and National Credit Union Administration updates guidance on workouts that the watchdogs issued in 2009.
Property owners have come under pressure as borrowing costs soared, causing companies including Brookfield Corp. and an office landlord managed by Pacific Investment Management Co. funds to default on debt. Office owners are particularly struggling as higher borrowing costs complicate financing and tenants pull back given layoffs and the rise of remote work.
Lenders will have to confront tricky negotiations as nearly $400 billion of debt on commercial real estate matures this year. The amount of distressed commercial property assets climbed to nearly $64 billion in the first quarter of this year, according to MSCI Real Assets.

>you will get there too, someday.
Glad you understand this, but somehow you still seem to have missed the point. Wealth naturally accrues over time for anyone intelligent enough to break the wheel of renting and wageslavery. Having 600k when you're 30 puts you in a significantly better financial position than having the same stack when you're 50+.
Of course, a lot of this comes down to luck. In the end I value process above all else. Your thesis is reasonable, but mostly backwards looking. The whole system of dollar denominated assets may be unsustainable, but every recent historical decision of congress and the Fed has consistently resulted in bailouts for asset holders at the expense of dollar holders. Why would they suddenly change that now?
This will continue until someday the whole country or laborers comes to the slow realization of this Sisyphean loop they're caught in earning a perpetually decaying currency. Someday the whole thing will inevitably explode, whether in inflationary spiral or an eternal depression. That day is not today, nor tomorrow.

On one hand, it does seem reasonable to think that a slow economy means less spending across the board and thus retail (like many other sectors) will perform poorly. However, people need to purchase essential goods, regardless of market conditions... I'm torn. What does /smg/ think?

No absolutely not. Retail (I'm assuming you mean consumer discretionary XLY) will get crushed harder than other sectors by a mile. XLY is for economic growth, increasing consumption, increasing earnings.
If you do believe in a recession, you should be buying consumer staples (XLP) companies like MCD, CL, KO, PEP, PM, PG, COST etc - all of these companies and the sector has underperformed huge YTD due to market belief of "no landing" - no need to be buying recession stocks if there will be no recession
Healthcare is also good XLV (and has been getting punished, same with XLU (but XLU is a bit more difficult as you have to worry about interest rates a lot more)

I hate getting into crypto discussions on this board (in fact I try to avoid any kind of discussion here outside of certain generals) but the scam projects you see here are not representative to the real value of the Blockchain economy.

For example, organisations such as Maker, Uniswap and Aave absolutely have value, and that value is based on the services they offer, the research that goes into their design and the welfare they generate to its stakeholders. It's just that 99% of this board is retarded and you often see the worse examples of crypto projects here.

Whenever you want. I sold awhile ago.
Hard to say what games they play from here, but objectively it's pretty overvalued again above $30. Basically at this point you're just betting on a squeeze as Hindenburg unwinds, but since Icahn has also announced closing his own margin positions against the equity over the next few years, there's no longer any benefit on his end to float the overvaluation via personally accepting in-kind distributions going forward.

So from a fundamental perspective, if you like the assets you're better off swapping over and buying CVI/UAN/XRX/VKSC/etc directly.

Different level of effort. Starting a business is a massive active undertaking. It's labor. It may or may not ever pay off.
And you're putting all your time/effort into that single venture. Through passive investing you can diversify and reduce risks.

I'm not saying that starting a business is necessarily a bad idea, but it's not really comparable.

Usually they'll get exercised the day before ex-div, earning less premium than you probably thought you'd get.

>ABBV has a dividend of $1.48 an ex-div date of Jul. 13. It is trading at $135.12 and the $135 July 14 expiration calls are trading at $0.94.
So instead you kind of have to look at this option as a Jul 12th $135 call for $0.94, or a $0.82 premium, although there's still residual value if it doesn't get exercised. The implied secondary option being the value of the chance that it rebounds past $135 between the 13th and 14th.
MMs hedge these ex-div options with puts, and there tends to be a wide spread between the pricing of calls vs puts that essentially accounts for the entire value of the dividend.

Sometimes you get mispricings though, especially when the dividend size/timing is not known ahead of time. Sometimes you simply luck out, and your counterparty is some uninformed investor that doesn't realize it's optimal to exercise and collect the dividend.
Sometimes, regardless of pricing efficiency, it's still worth making the play because you believe downside risk is low and you're collecting a premium regardless.

almost never get a reply on this board cuz its all shills and crypto fags, but here goes...

I took a 75% profit on CC (Chemours) and looking for new investments. Thoughts on the following good dividend stocks that are down right now?:

MMM
DUK

Also, I own a shit ton of LTBR and it is finally a little above my break even any thoughts on that or NuCore?

Any opinions on IEP? I had been slowly accumulating and DRIPping so had 500+ shares last spring when the shorts colluded and lost half my value in a week. Bought 250 more at 20 and now it is ~$34 so between that and the >$1000 dividend 2 weeks ago, I have regained most of my losses, but wondering do I continue to hold and DRIP or get out.

Lastly, is there a sell price for Apple? Over the past 20+ years, I have bought and sold it for handsome profits, but missed at least 50% of the appreciation by being out of it. Like right now, I bought 100 shares at about $140 and am holding. would be about a 34% gain so not too bad, but last week would have been 38% gain. IDK, is it just a hold forever stock?

At what price is MMM a buy? It is like 6.2% Dividend right now and prob going to raise it a tiny bit again next month. I've been buying like 5 shares on the dips below 100, but thinking of buying like 100-200 shares and pick up the $300-600 every quarter.

Also, explain the IEP trap to me like I am a 12 year old. It is obvious that the dividends are paid not on actual corporate profits, but by sales of assets, which would be a problem if every component was a fully mature dinosaur corporation (like 3M), but if the corporations are growing then selling the growth is somewhat sustainable, right? What am I missing? Other than Carl being 87 years old.

Isn't the questions whether the underlying assets are worth the valuation?
