I don't trust the BRICS. I think they are run by the same kind of thieves who run Washington D.C. But I don't have to trust the BRICS because I can trust gold. And I can expect the BRICS to do what is in their own interest. Right now that means issuing a trustworthy trade currency to dethrone the USD. For a gang of thieves like the BRICS to make their new currency trustworthy, they need to truly back it with a commodity. The obvious choice is also the historic choice: gold (and less likely silver).

The fact that the BRICS don't trust each other is just another reason why they will need to use gold. That is the only way they can avoid the risk of one member of the coalition running the printing press and destabilizing the joint currency. Gold is the cure for mistrust.

Finally, the fact that some of the BRICS have economic and/or social problems (although no worse than the USA) only adds another impetus to issue a gold currency. When the USSR couldn't feed it's people due to commie stupidity, they had to use gold to buy wheat from Canada. Gold is money no matter how shitty your society might be.

To dissipate any potential misunderstanding, previously the $4 was corresponding to the cost for the Navy to recover silver on their own old equipment and melt it down to then reuse it. Idk if you noticed IQ, but the paper was drafted in April 2022, in early April last year the spot was at $25, and the premiums were around $5, so it matches the prices availible on the open market back then.
But the premium part don't make sense since they don't need 1oz rounds for industrial purposes, it's reserved to investments. But maybe the answer is because they need their silver with a specific form, like maybe in thin cables?

Those coins are known for being really poorly striked, it was back when Spain started to become really rich from their silver mines in South America in the XVIIth c. but before they had the ability to mass produce quality coins down there.

As far as burglary is concerned, a good hiding spot is 100% more effective than a safe, the one exception being maybe a solid floor safe. The only reason you should store your metals in a safe is for fireproofing, which actually isn't a bad reason at all, that being said you can just kill two birds with one stone and hide a fireproof safe.
