I make around the same amount you do. I have a new Toyota Corolla, live in a 2 bedroom apartment, wear fairly nice clothes and still go out to eat when I feel like it. And I still have a shit-ton of leftover money to keep for emergency situations, invest, vacation/travel, etc.

These people are just retarded with their money. My boss makes like $90k a year, but he drives around in brand new $80k Lexus and probably owns a $350k house, plus he has a wife and 2 kids. He also maxed out 3 different credit cards.

ya technically not that expensive. The thing people care more about others than they do themselves. I could live in a 1bed room apt with a mattress on the floor. Do I want that for my kids and wife tho? I want the nice minivan for them. I want them to have their own rooms. I want them to be around other wealthy people so their friends aren't shitty. I want my wife to feel safe when she goes to the park with the kids. When I was single I got robbed at gun point and kept living in the area for years. I can put up with a lot and live in shit. I want so much more than I ever did before having a family. Easy to be sardonic nihilist when its just your life at stake. Start taking responsbility for other people's lives and your tune will change. Its weird, have kids and suddenly you don't want the world to explode tomorrow. Not that it cures depression, its just really selfish to want the world to burn with your children in it. I stopped thinking oh fuck it I'll just kill myself constantly once I had kids. Not because they filled me with joy, but because how the fuck could I even consider that now as an option?

My housing is 2500 a month for a 3br townhome including maintenance tax all that shit
My food is 600-700 a month including eating out sometimes with my gf and buying alcohol where I pay for everything because she’s very low paid at her shitty job
My car insurance, registration, fuel, and car property tax, plus regular maintenance broken down every month is $350
Utilities are $350 too

Now we’re already at $4000 a month in shit I have to budget for. Now add another 1500-2000 for hobbies, random purchases, and vacations. Good thing I make 16k a month post tax so I can actually save 10 grand a month.

I don’t even have kids yet either. And my house isn’t that big or fancy looking. I live 40 min away from a major city, if I lived 15 min away from the city then my house would be 2x the current price
