Shot in the dark here, but it seems like when an alt is created just to make a quick buck for whoever created it, it's going to be manipulated and pumped because that was their goal from the get-go. The XMR devs at least claimed to genuinely want to create a true privacy token and didn't care about it's speculative value.

I think there is a sizeable amount of people who actually stand behind XMR for its privacy functions, but the sad truth is most people don't care about privacy for one reason or another. Most people in crypto see it as an investment to be flipped for fiat.
