Imo, they should make decentralized solutions that will take the power off any single entity, then it will be worth it.

A republic is a tool created by the caste of merchants and civil servants to 1/ get rid of monarchies 2/ to base their society on commerce alone (whereas monarchies are based on military conquests and getting rich with the spoils of the victory) with the promise that the caste of servants will keep tabs on the caste of merchants to impose ''competition among the merchants'' in order to ''empower'' the clients.
On the bureaucratic side, the caste of the servants are supposed to ''empower the citizen''. This is the birth of the atheist revolutions in america, in britian, in france and russia. This was 200 years ago.
In a republic the army is the bitch of the public servants and this means the army is contractualized and turned into a commerce, like any other human activity.
It turns out servants and merchants are best friend in private and in public they claim to be like oil and water to keep the theater going... so all the promises of ''empowering the general population'' is rubbish.

Like all the people employed by the civil servants the lower people are mistreated even if they are part of the public institutions, think like the teachers, and the military people too, with very low pay.

The only thing which stands out with the military is that the servants make its spending more secretive than the usual public budget for the crappy public hospitals, public schools and so on.

None of this is a secret. It's the basic propaganda the merchants and bureaucrats have been doing over the last 2 centuries.
