If I ever get fired or laid off my severance package will be 50-70k. Why would anyone quit their job unless it was to jump to another company? Just start slacking off, collect paycheck and let them fire you after a while, then once severance runs out you can get state unemployment bennies. Voluntarily quitting a job because you’re tired of working seems the most regarded thing one can do, just stop working while still being employed

Because you're tried of the shit. Also when I quit my job I wasn't thinking about collecting unemployment. In retrospect I shouldn't have quit and should have just found a way to not care but the situation I was put in was unfair and hard to ignore.

I've been waiting to get fired for like 2 years now and it's not happening. I do barely any work, but since its a government job and my managers keep changing no one seems to care. At this point I'm probably just going to quit since bennies are not even that high (like 2k per month) and I might want to come back in a few years so it's better not to tank my reputation completely.

being fired is different from being laid off. you don't collect a severance for being fired. you probably don't even collect state unemployment pittance (a few hundred bucks a week) for being fired.

>> No.55402492

I don't think I get a severance, but my employer would be on the hook for 100% of unemployment gibs for me.

Because not everyone has a remote or comfy office job where they just do nothing all day and some of us would rather just say fuck this and quit after being at our limit for too long. By quitting you give yourself as much time as you need to recharge.

I stopped working when my job banned me from coming in to the workplace for not getting vaxxed.

I haven't done over 20 minutes of honest work per day for 2 years.

They still pay me and my yearly performance assessments go well.

I honestly don't know what's going on, it's like I woke up one day in a weird clown world alternate reality.

no one will hire you again if you have a firing on your record. you pretty much blacklist yourself from employment

Still, you get to stay longer doing nothing and get paid a salary. As long as you are not fired, they have to pay.

Blacklists between companies are mostly a meme, that’s a huge lawsuit waiting to happen. Most of the time a company won’t badmouth a former employee since it opens them up to getting sued for defamation. Varies by industry of course

I voluntarily quit my job a couple years ago due to burnout. Problem is, that was around the time RIGHT before Powell started the rate hikes and job market took a giant dump.

Now I'm saddled without a job and the job market conditions are fucking awful.

As for "why didn't you just get fired?", be mindful that you can't quality for unemployment benefits if you were fired due to poor performance/no-performance.
