It's a last ditch insurance policy if your country ever goes into hyperinflation, or hyperdeflation. At that point in time, it should only be sold to get the goods and services you need to survive.

It'll also be a very useful tool if/when the government either bans cash, or starts keeping track of every transaction you make, which will effect your social score. In which case, you can use your precious metals to barter for other physical goods, or services.

>>55388685

After reading this, I'll assume you're LARPing, but I'll post this anyways for other people to read.

Do NOT buy gold, or silver is large ounces. You should only be buying gold in ¼ ounce, ½ ounce and 1 ounce increments and you should stick with coins, no meme collectibles (unless you're a coin collector). You should be buying silver in 1 ounce increments and 10 ounce bars if you want a lower premium. Whether you buy silver in coins, rounds, or bars doesn't really matter. Your concern should be the metal content, not the government it came from, or the design on it.

care to explain why? i have a hunch why: is it because in case you need to liquidate parts of to survive, you will be forced to do so at market rate and therefore if you fall on hard times during a gold bear market you are going to be rekt raw no vaseline no pulling out

>> No.55388781

>>55388746
>are you sarcastic?
yep...
But let me ask you why you "lose" 7%? Nobody is buying physical at the spot price, and if you can, do it. On the other hand, if you had that bar in hand and offered a 6% premium, someone looking to buy will to save the 1%... Spot price isn't what gold costs.

And why would it? Find and buy 3,000 rings, chemically purify them, cast them into a bar... Then sell it to me for the same price you paid for the rings. Just because other people do those steps, or mine it, etc... Does not mean they do it for free.

If there is one things to tell EVERYONE and it will be good advice is NOT to spend your life savings on an investment you don't understand.

>> No.55388799

>>55388781
your entire explanation about the cost of mining and processing gold has zero to do with the picture i posted, i am showing you that they are buying the exact same bar back only at 7% less, and they will sell it again at the price you paid for it, if all transactions theoretically happened at the same date

That's part of it. But, read my first reply; >>55388745 I view precious metals as a last ditch insurance policy. If you're in an environment with extreme volatility, being forced to liquidate your entire stack in 1 trade could end up destroying you just a few months down the road if you're in a hyperinflation scenario where your cash proceeds lose a lot of value in a short period of time. Being able to liquidate 1 ounce of gold a month to cover basic expenses would be ideal over liquidating an entire kilo in 1 month.

On top of that, in the second scenario where you have to barter, you have to think about how many people will even have the ability to match your kilo gold value in physical goods. No farmer is going to be able to trade you 1 gold kilo worth of meat, eggs and milk. He won't have the inventory and it would be a dumb decision on your part because your goods would go bad over time anyways. Plus, you draw WAY too much attention flashing a kilo gold bar around looking for someone to do business with you.

frankly, I have answered you... they buy and sell metal to make money, they have not dedicated their entire lives to making it easy for you to convert fiat to metal on a whim.

you aren't losing a penny when you haven't bought any gold OR sold it back to them... but actualizing a loss isn't even a metals concept, nor is it advanced investing lingo...

Furthermore...
>accurately answer any question so far?
You literally asked if anyone can comment, and I said yes... But where is your dumbass getting the ego to demmand a financial thesis -with accuracy- when you can't even verbalize the actual question you want an answer to?

>>55388656
>you seem to make an instant 6-10% loss the moment you buy it and want to resell it that same moment
So don't do this... There is no magic metals ritual that we all secretly perform... We simply don't do shit that even an apparent retard thinks is a bad idea

If you honestly don't grasp economics, inflation, or overhead costs... Metal isn't for you...
When are you going to sell? Unless you can answer THIS question, with specificity, then you should NOT be buying gold...

Calling PANMAN and Big Bob!

I finally found my antique sulfide gold ore sample box and took a pic. It's from "Tip-Top Gold Mines, Inc." with headquarters in Denver and a half dozen gold mines in Gilpin county Colorado. From the very little I can dig up on them it seems that they got started in 1936 or so, and were recorded as producing ~3,000 tons of ore in 1940, but I assume WW2 caused them to get shut down. In the printed insert they wish the recipient a happy and prosperous 1938 so it was made and sent in 1937, apparently before they really got production going. Very interesting promotional gimmick and probably done to encourage the sale of their stock? I figure that very few boxes of literal rocks would have been saved more than a few days back in the 30s so I think it's a pretty unique artifact of the pre-WW2 gold mining era. If you have any thoughts or insights I'd appreciate them, thanks!

Globohomo is collapsing and they're pulling out all the final shills. Muh Russia coup, muh aliens, muh China is gonna collapse this time. They're purging the military of white men at record pace so they don't have access to weapons come the actual civil war in America. They want a servile military of brownies and trannies that have no loyalty to the nation. Every country is dropping the dollar. Control of the banks means nothing without industry, and they shipped our industry off to China, and Xi closed the door, so they can't flee there like they were planning to.

It's over. Enjoy the collapse.

Don't give up, I'm sure you can fit lots more 20 francs coins in there, especially if you take them out of those oversized capsules. Just find a tube the right size and you're good.
Also your pic got rotated by the server because it had exif data embedded in it. You have to remove it yourself to avoid that, by cropping or resizing the image. You can also use a tool like ImageMagick (has "strip" command).

Has nothing to do with exif. It's info stored locally and separately on the local device, which (a phone) associates how the phone was oriented at the time of exposure.
The image array is as the sensor recorded it. Either a phone has to be able (with an app?) to rearrange the array (image), or you have to take it to a PC to do that.
When you look at what you posted, the device you're using has no sidebar info on what "up" was at the time of exposure, so your phone will display it as the array recorded it.

In 2,000 years what American coins will be popular with ancient coin collectors?
I bet buffalo nickels will be a favorite. Since there have been billions of Lincoln cents minted over the last century, I could see those being popular among new collectors as a cheap way to get into the hobby.
1 Lincoln penny in decent shape will probably go for an equivalent of $15-20 2023 dollars in 2,000 years. Unc zinc pennies will fetch somewhat higher premiums due to zincs fragility as an element however.

How do I hack the premium of gold chains?
I have asked /fa too, but I have no hope for those guys :)
I know that bullion or bars is what to buy as investment. I just want 1000 bucks around my neck at all times tho (inb4 just buy krugerrand pendant and scratch the coin over the years ahead)

Online jewellers are shit. Their premium over the gold price is HUGE and sometimes they do not even tell us the weight. How do I hack this so I only buy at a small premium? I could even go as low as 14 carat but 18 carat is probably where I will land.

I visit both Dubai and Hong Kong regularly. But phew, what a jungle. I do not even mind buying second hand. Pawn shops probably pay very little so should be able to sell with almost no premium. Any anon got any good info on this? Any jewellers here?

Coin and pawn shops buy scrap gold jewelry at discount to then ship and sell to refineries for ~98-99% of melt value, call around and ask if they will sell karat gold at spot price. My dad buys gold religious pendants and crucifixes that are of superior workmanship from his LCS at melt value but isn't interested in their chains. Muggers will yank off chains they see people wearing, so if you can't hide them under your shirt collar you might also consider anklets or ankle bracelets which can be kept hidden under your socks or pant legs. You can buy either karat gold or cheap base metal pendant bezels you can insert bullion coins into and have them attached to your bracelet or necklace chains too, damage/wear shouldn't be a problem if you're not wearing them constantly for months straight and you'd likely get top dollar for those if your jewelry is typically bought at discount wherever you're traveling.

I've seen it go from sub-$1k to $30k and back down to its current $5k. #1 rule of investing: don't listen to "analysts" that are selling a certain class of investments

#2 everyone knows BRICS are separating from the western financial system and China is basically cloning the World Bank and IMF to lend funds in a closed circuit to other nations for development purposes.

What that means for gold -- and even if BRICS will back a currency with gold -- is ultimately unknown.

I buy gold because I don't trust the Canadian dollar but when it comes to China and the changes in the global financial system there is a lot of "just trust me bro" to the current analysis.

my issue with the whole brics thing is why in the fuck export countries would want a strong currency? they don't. It makes their exports more expensive. China right now is trying to assivly increse their exports to stimulate growth in their economy. They cant just build like they always do to stimulate. They are weakening their currency right now to compete with all teh other low cost manufacturing countries now. Whats interesting is the brics currency is they are setting up a bond system with it so it can freely traded. This is the ultimate source of the USD strength, it can be instantly traded, bought sold, used for collateral, everything financial. Main problem with chinas financial system is its closed off and incredibly hard to deal with for foreigners. Theres onshore and off shore markets, its super fucked for foreign investors, and super hard to move money out of it if youre chinese. im not sure how, or why they would keep capitol controls over the brics bond market and currency so the capitol could flow effectively. But really the strong currency is my main concern, would they revalue gold or commodities, but devalue the currency concurrently? Or would they just massively devalue their current currency to inflate their truly massive debts away while pivoting to the new brics currency.

Again, I'm not a finance expert so can't predict what they will OR SHOULD do.

You're fundamentally misunderstanding the meaning of a "strong currency". Obviously the USD is considered a "strong currency" because of the outcome of WWII and the bretton woods conference. The US got insanely rich by selling to both sides of the war (lend lease to the soviets and up until the US joined the war; Ford, US Standard Oil, Coca-Cola, IBM, etc. were all trading with the third reich throughout the 30s.) and came away from the war virtually unscathed. Pearl Harbor wasn't even a scratch and had no impact on civilian infrastructure the way it did for most of Europe. Combine this with the later relationships formed with OPEC nations, chiefly Saudi Arabia and the creation of the petro dollar and bam - the USD is the reserve currency. What that essentially means is that we have incredible monetary policies that provide tools no other country in the world has access to, swap lines being one example.

Because of all this, the US has been able to defraud the world with fun money that can be printed into oblivion without immediately suffering from hyperinflation. No other nation in the world can do this, despite having a fiat currency similar to ours in almost every other aspect.

But this entire monetary system relies on trust. Which means most of the world needs to trust the USD and continue holding debt and using the dollar to facilitate the import/export of physical goods. You can laugh at the BRICS nations and think it's some kind of failing ploy to create a new Chinese or Russian reserve currency to replace the dollar, but it's not. The world market operated without a reserve currency long before world war II and the bretton woods conference. The world market didnt care so much what currency was used to facilitate the sale, as long as there was a FIXED EXCHANGE RATE FOR GOLD. The entire world is collectively deciding that they'd rather not rely on the USD and instead back their currency with gold and only trade w/ counties doing the same.

>BRICS+ introduces gold backed currency
No nation wants to willingly embark on a gold standard. Inflationary schemes are what give power to the state, if every state expenditure costs actual money, then with each state expenditure the state loses a modicum of its power. I am of the opinion that the BRICS are/have laid the ground work to introduce a gold backed currency as a lifeboat away from the dying dollar, but I see no reason why they would embark on said lifeboat prematurely. Russia is afterall in a war at the moment and wars are fought with debt, not money.

If those crazy fuckers did do it in August though, the Federal Reserve System will have a fucking aneurism of epic proportions. This is way outside the bounds of any predictive models, hopefully extreme chaos extremely fast.

Hi silverbros. It's been a while.
Has anyone heard of the coordinated vacation attack? Basically you book off the third week of august for a vacation, but everyone else does this too. You also don't buy much so as to pay less in taxes. At worst you get a vacation.
However, if word spreads and it takes off then things might actually start to change for better or for worse.

>I haven’t found shit except a pair of sterling pearl earrings.
Never found a pair of earrings myself, I'd call that a good score anon! Watch your park for things like utility line work, demolitions, or installation of tennis/basketball courts, wherever they're scraping/grading dirt or digging trenches you should try swinging a detector. For example in another park I had never found any silver in before they were doing work around an old bridge from the 1800s and churned up a nice ~30'x20' patch of earth. I pulled out the detector for a quick swing and near the end of gridding, after finding nothing but a few pull tabs and newer pennies dug an 1840 half dime, more than 40 years older than the park I detected it in! I was beyond surprised, it's a bit bent but not marred so I was super happy. Keep your eyes open for fresh dirt and good luck!
