Most of them have shit returns, so compounding through internal reinvestment is hopeless unless cheap leverage is involved. You can sit on something imagining that it's worth 2x and hope some buyer comes around for an LBO and gives you a quick return. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. If you buy something cheap and it's doing massive returns via dividends then you can just sit on it and receive a high yield on cost forever, although if it ever does rerate higher you're likely better off just selling out and moving on.
