no one knows. I'm not even sure what staking is nor what it is for at this point.

Currently staking is just us locking our tokens in a contract for no apparent reason except for maybe trying to prove that escrow contracts work. In the future, I'm not really sure how staking will look. Something like:

>I want to earn free money
>I send my Link tokens to some guy's smart contract and I hope it has been thoroughly audited to only enable the following outcome:
>This guy makes API calls all day with his computer and uses the responses from APIs to call functions in smart contracts (ultimately downstream, of course this guy is just making the API call). He apparently holds a bunch of Link which proves that he is giving accurate results from the API calls. There will be such a high demand for people paying other people to make API calls on a bunch of redundant machines to make sure that everyone agrees on the API call that I'll get paid a portion of it because this guy agrees to hold my Link in a smart contract.

Idk, something like that.

It's obviously going straight from V0.2 to V1.0, they've made that quite clear.

in v0.1 stakers can raise alerts if a node has downtime
if the alert is valid then node operators can be slashed for their staking rewards (although not underlying stake)
it's testing
but also provides legal/regulatory coverage
