>get into crypto in 2015
>started with $1000
fast forward to defi summer
>sitting on 2.6 mil
>quit my job
>enjoy life for a year
long story short im now sitting on 20k via taxes, bad investment choices, etc

now that the bull run has started i have friends texting me asking general questions and i can barely wake up/look at myself in the mirror without a profound sense of sadness and fear
i havent worked in 3 years and cannot get a job due to resume gap despite being qualified for the companies' requirements
i have no recent references

point im trying to make is simple: sell when you're up and enjoy life. i am a true shell of who i used to be. i am a zombie whose only accomplishment is growing older one day at a time. its incredibly embarrassing to be a part of the group that beat the odds and without question had a ticket to freedom, and somehow simultaneously lost it all.
>i replied to the friend with a single sentence
>Please do not ever talk about cryptocurrency around me ever again.

it was the first time ive ever more or less publicly declared my pain and vulnerability around the subject. the point of this post is while everyone's euphoric, never forget your goals and keep them realistic.

none of your defaming replies or jeers can touch me, as believe me when i say this, i have already beaten myself up more than you ever could and i am still my own biggest critic.

ask me anything

as per,

this means either holding til you die or selling at 100k
it means dollar cost averaging
it means daytrading within your loss/profit limits
never forget your goals
>>55361471
just trying to help others not make my mistakes. i am the saddest person i know and i wouldn't wish this on anyone. posting this on a basket weaving imageboard is pretty solid evidence of what i mean. there's no one to talk to. ironically nobody other than randos on biz

kek same except I bought a house and my crypto was only ever up to ~1.5 milli
Sometimes I feel like I fucked up too, could have done better with crypto, could have bought a better house, could have bought tesla.
The real moral of the story is don't smoke weed it will completely stunt you.

bought and held up through 2017
sold around 10k
rebought some btc and leveraged long on ethereum around entry of $100
fucked with yams and other defi things and along with the leverage reached that 2.6m
sold
gave the IRS about $1M in taxes
folio shrunk to 200k and earned back about to the range of 800k or so
>taxes again
with expenses of day to day life it goes fast
>>55361529
similarly i never had problems with alcohol
drank when my folio was up, felt like a super pimp. celebrate with another bottle of wine because i "made" 100k a week
all the sudden after losing all the money on a good day i might relax and drink a beer and watch tv but instead of feeling euphoric i just feel groggy and numb

this lead to me mostly quitting alcohol outside of social situations

Man I missed the ftx bottom, in so far I've missed about 5k profits due to me being a retard, and it's only going to go up from here. I'm doing dca but it's silly because by the time i invest all my money, btc price will be higher than it currently is. I'm having so much FOMO for the past 6 months that I can't live anymore, I just stare at charts, I'm so mentally tired and have no friends or distractions. I'm second guessing every choice I make or made.

Taxes really are meant to keep people from making it. A salary of 2MM is a lot, making 2MM over almost a decade isn't.

Anon, if you did it once you can do it again. Remember how it first made you feel in 2015, getting into the most cutting edge high tech thing that nobody had even heard of. There's going to be more (or alternatively we'll go into yugoslavia mode in which case you should have bought a ticket to gtfo.)

>> No.55361638

>>55361608
or I should say, I missed about 0.15 btc extra profits that will become more and more expensive to buy after each day that passes, meaning it will take me more months' worth of wages to get to that point.
I can't think straight

Exactly in the same boat OP. I think that my wife wants to divorce me especially since she is now the main breadwinner and I work as a lyft driver. We will both figure it out, just need to set a solid plan and follow through. Normal life take time to improve, we were fooled by the nearly instant insane gains we achieved a few years ago but that time is gone. Good luck bro.

>I just stare at charts, I'm so mentally tired and have no friends or distractions
sounds like we are pretty darn similar
>>55361629
thanks friend, i keep trying to believe this but its hard because crypto is no longer some esoteric niche group. seems like everyone knows the next meme coin and is fully aware on how to use metamask and all
its not like being in crypto is fringe anymore its pretty commonplace which makes me not understand how i could find the niche within the niche AGAIN
>>55361646

>>55361672
>we were fooled by the nearly instant insane gains we achieved a few years ago but that time is gone
and that's whats fucked me up so hard. making a salary in a week makes it very hard to wrap your head around working for a paycheck, even though im applying furiously to anything and everything even entry level jobs in my field. the resume gap meme is not a meme. its real.
>>55361687
it can be used for emphasis.
the idea of reddit spacing is a newfag masquerading as an oldfag cope for that biz is no longer some insider-knowledge warehouse of memes and superiority to reddit. last time i checked, reddit is still winning for the most part.
>>55361771
that's whats fucked, is i am fit and topically i look like i have my life together. just a shell, as described.

and that's about all i have at this point
>>55361863
looks like its getting to that. have been considering a temp agency and antidepressants at this point. just join the swathes of losers that make up the rest of the world and rely on this kind of help. although i dont know of too many success stories of someone that got their lives back together like this other than addicts and permanent-losers.
which i suppose ive become.

what you need to understasnd is that networth is like a grain silo, and you only need to take out what is tax free (first 40k in capital gains is tax free), then you need to rollover and reinvest into SEP IRAs/Roth IRA/primary residence or you will GET FUCKED

that when i used to look for jobs/had a job i was approached by recruiters constantly, got offers/interviews somewhat regularly
now ive applied to countless jobs and have only got to the initial phone screening
twice now ive heard...
>seems like youve been out of the industry for a while, what should i make of this?
i reply with something to the effect of
>it hasn't changed enough that any new things couldn't be learned as readily as ive learned to build up my prior experience. on the job youll experience new techniques and ideas all the time, incorporating them is about as simple as reading and staying up to date. continually improving is a part of the job
and then no call back
and maybe that's my advice to those trying to make it
be 100% sure you can 100% live off that money for the rest of your life otherwise you might be untouchable save getting a job at home depot
>>55362217
wow thanks for the insight but there's no way to really avoid selling btc for usd without incurring taxes. if you decide to, let's say, leverage long and you make 100m the moment you close that position an you're up a shit ton of BTC guess what YOU RECEIVED THAT BITCOIN AND IT IS TAXABLE
so no, idiot, its not like you can trade your way to millions and just old a dog coin and "sell a little to avoid taxes"
that's why the crypto to crypto ruling kind of destroyed a lot of peoples dreams of making it

stopped reading there. sounds to me like you didnt actually expect it to go up that much and when it did you started forming new narratives in your head that you somehow could make more money or live off of passive income in defi or whatever....
i think you should forget the whole finding a niche within a niche starting from scratch again and just basically accept yourself for making a stupid error and judgement call in your life and start finding a regular job meanwhile dcaing into btc or bnb until you come up with a better plan. you sound pretty humbled by this whole experience and maybe that is what you need, or deserve. whatever you do DONT leverage what youve got left and keep beating yourself down being miserable. you made a big fuck up in your life but youre still here and you still got 20k and ur still smart so if you figured out btc in 2015 chances are another opportunity will come along at some point and you will find that too.
