I’m not shitting y’all, Madison is actually TOWN in Boone county. There’s a Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, gun store, hardware store, gas station, and the railroad parks up there and Danville. I worked at a prep plant about 30 minutes from Madison and that was really out in the sticks, but they paid me 100k a year to pull a lever 300 times a shift

Sounds pretty awesome, I like trains and living near trains.

If you are going country/wilderness, the smartest thing you can possibly do is set up fully off grid. With a large enough IBC tank you won't need to dig a well, and if you put it in your attic you can run a gravity feed system. Worst case scenario in a drought, you hire a water tanker truck to refill. A mix of PV solar and solar hot water run under the floor and you will not even have utility bills. Utilize thermal mass, thick walls, will save you a lot of money. For winter time/storms, a wood/coal rocket stove will be your best option for backup hot water heating. I would go with gas powered oven, fridge, and washing machines unless you want to go cray cray with solar panels and battery storage. Fuck the grid, fuck utilities.
