It's normal to find videos of talking heads making predictions ranging from $50-600/oz. If you are unresearched on silver, I hope you find this useful. If you have purchased physical silver recently, thanks for making a difference in exposing the lie.

There is only one measurement that has balanced the scales between man and metal for the last 2,000 years. Weight of physical silver against a day's labor is the standard for money. Here's the historical averages for silver value:

Babylonian workers earned 2.1 grams (1/15oz) per day. Greek workers earned 4.3g/day. Roman workers made 4.2g/day (pre-currency devaluation). The 1300s England saw an average of 2.1g/day. A thatcher (roofer) in 1261 would make 2.8g/ day. In 1341 it rose to 4.2g/day. In 1717, Newton fixed the ratio of gold and silver, keeping the metal values incredibly stable until Napoleon would come along. In 1938, nominal value of minimum wages was 4.5 OUNCES/day. 1974 nominal min wage value was 3.6oz. In 2015 it had reached 1.75oz. In the current environment, Biden's 2021 $15/hr minimum wage would buy 4.4 ounces of today's silver spot price.

There are 31.103 grams in 1 ounce of silver. For 2,000 years, it only took 2-5 of those GRAMS to equal a day's wage, depending on economy and specific type of labor. In 2019, the average American earned $936/week. In 2023, it rose (amazingly) to $984/week. Using these numbers, silver's natural and unmanipulated price (not counting industry and other forces) averaged to 3.1g/day labor would be valued at $1,968. $1,872 using 2019's rate. That's right, the $27/oz market ticker for silver that is being premium sold as high as $46/oz has officially separated. It should naturally be worth $1,968 of 2021 currency in a CALM economy under normal supply loads. BTW, at a 15:1, that would price gold at $29,520/oz.

I agree with you but let's play devil's advocate to explore the reasoning:

There is a higher supply of silver in the world today. How can we be sure this increase in the silver supply (indeed, silver inflation) is not responsible for the increase of daily wages measured in silver?

There is more silver today today due to mining production, but also more people alive. Mike Mahoney has said the increasing supply of PMs has relatively kept up with birthrates, but how can we be sure? Maybe not enough new consumers (demand) met the increased supply, which is why silver is cheaper today, and wages in silver are higher, and price is close to where it belongs.

That being said, I know that Silver's price is definitely suppressed through paper trades, and the GSR is completely distorted right now. These are my highest reasons for stacking.

As much as I enjoy reading these fantasies, I find them unlikely to be true. Don't get me wrong, I think silver is a perfectly fine physical asset and I do enjoy buying it (other than the fact that I'm collecting pieces of gray metal and think that that's some sort of "reasonable activity"). But while it seems true that the price of precious metals has been driven down by artificial supply, the demand that would drive it up is also largely artificial. Most of the money flows between people who simply want to speculate on silver, it's not like they want the actual silver. They are manipulating the market, but inadvertently: they print a bunch of "shitcoins", then they trade them among each other, and engage in a largely zero-sum game. It is a huge money-flow, but also a closed loop. They might as well print actual shitcoins and let the silver be, the effect would be the same. This is already a kind of primitive blockchain. The profit that each participant achieves is proportional to his ability to predict the moves of other participants. It is pure game-playing. Yes, the Hunt-brothers did actually attempt to manipulate the market in the actual sense: they attacked the network, though in the financial sense.

It is more established, and thus has more staying power in popular opinion, but it is not mechanically distinct. Physical silver is the "real asset" and futures are the shitcoins. The shitcoins are traded around, some portion of them backable by physical, but that's insubstantial. Few of them want the physical anyway, they are just interested in trading. In principle, no physical even need exist. If they employed a blockchain to trade tokens, it'd just be a different implementation of the current legacy system of futures. The "network", if we want to use that analogy, can be attacked by draining liquidity from it, but that only works because the futures and the physical are "co-mingled" (they aren't really co-mingled, as said; when you're buying a future, you're never getting physical, even probabilistically; you always buy the future without anything physical being traded around).
If you notice, you yourself co-mingled futures and physical because you appealed to the property of silver being traditional money, which is completely unrelated to the futures market. Because I criticized futures, you thought I was criticizing silver and therefore replied accordingly.

Silver futures are a shitcoin - not in the sense of being particularly bad, but in that of it being some made-up token to facilitate trading. Silver does have some industrial uses, but it's also traded around as the "generic commodity", as a money-made-into-a-commodity. A kind of monopoly money. Yes, it can function as actual money too and it has done so in the past, but what I mean is that the people who trade it don't see it that way. They do operationally think that they're playing around with monopoly money: it just something "fun to collect" to them. But they can't create actual silver, so they create made-up silver and trade that around. The same thing happened in the great bullion famine, but that back then was real, whereas today, it's a game with silver and real in Eurodollars.

Don't YOU know why you are stacking silver? Seems an odd question.

I stack silver because I think it will hold value against a collapsing dollar and most other assets are riding on a debt bubble that is likely to burst.

Some folks think, with reason, that the industrial demand for silver, along with a diminishing of supply, will sustain long-term growth in its exchange value.

Some folks think, again with reason, that silver is being manipulated in an unsustainable way and that the result, when the scam unwinds, will be a jump in the fiat price of silver.

Some folks think that silver will be remonetized and that demand will soar along with its exchange value. I am skeptical of this. I think gold is far more likely to be remonetized.

That's it in a nutshell. If you have somewhere better to put fiat dollars, do tell.

Can't speculate on your eventual goblin pussy dividends, but I do want to commend you for the classy selection of old world "crowns" you've been putting together. All have great toning and superior eye-appeal, and are in nice condition without being too high-grade and expensive. Collecting very appealing coins like yours which can still be fondled without fear of shaving points off a MS-XX grade and hurting value is where it's at, your taste in coins seems almost the same as mine but you've clearly exercised more discipline in sticking to your standard than I can usually muster.

Right. Coin resellers, right. But sometimes people not too keen on silver price sell for close to "exchange rate" I've seen in the past. And pre-Euro currency exchange rates began to end in the 90's, so they may be looking at data from exchange rates in the 80s. Typically mom and pop shops or people who cleaned out grandpa's collection looking to make a quick buck.

What is that art-nouveau item? Looks like it's broken and the piece on the left should be flipped right-side up and put to the right of the fragment on the right? Is it the back of a brush or something like that? And that local 4th of july medal/pin from 1900 is super badass, but since you don't seem too excited I guess you've seen them before? Fellow USAfags, is there any interest in forming some type of casual breakaway pmg group chat or something to discuss metals but also some poor man's numismatics?
Nothing against pmg fags from other countries but it's really hard to discuss relatable things from other countries when it comes to prices and aquiring metals.
We can share deals, share our recent pickups and coinstar and bankroll finds. 4chan sucks for posting images. And eventually I would like to do swaps for coins we need for sets or whatever.
If the group gets established I'll even do a giveaway of 1oz silver and some common date Third Reich 2RM and probably some other goodies.

I don't think a global catastrophe will be required to return to commodity money. That is the natural state of advanced economies. I'm looking at doing something different why would I want to replicate it? I would just stay here. This is definitely not what I'm looking for.

I win GAWs of silver and coins all the time on Instagram and WhatNot. It's fun and everyone loves it. Like I said I'm just throwing ideas out there and thought it would be something fun to do it's not for enticing people to join or however you interpret it. Feel free to hit me up on IG and I'll discuss this with you all day, not on here but I'm guessing you're too paranoid to use it.

You should buy coins, because they're easier to verify. I buy krugerrands, because they're 22 karat and well-established coins that are very liquid worldwide, and have very low premiums. If you want .999 gold, you should look into the britannias and maples, as they have some additional security features.

>I'd guess it's extremely rare but that doesn't translate well to value
Yep I'm sure we can come up with many such cases, but I think it's a great blessing that very rare or unique items can be obtained cheap as long as no one else really cares about them or recognizes what's special. I picked up this old primitive settler/homesteader era milking stool last year carved from a single piece of wood, I assume with a hatchet. Tons of old wear and patina and superlative character for only $2. Compare with mass-produced soulless "collectibles" like beanie-babies and I know what I'll choose.

Yep the heaviest few there are Hemiobols and small fractions of staters or Achaemenid sigloi, the smaller ones are Tetartemoria, hemitetartemoria, and even a few 1/4 tetartemorion (1/16th obol or 1/96th drachm) specks, extrapolating from their 30-40mg weight anyway. Imagine trying to keep track of those things. I'm sure it was hard enough to avoid losing the "tiny" half dimes or 3 cent silvers of more modern times, but the tedium of sifting through the dirt or grass to recover a 3-4mm speck was probably wasted effort half the time. I'm sure the widespread mintage and use of larger bronze coins for small denominations by the 4th century BC was a welcomed improvement.

I've only found three pinnacle medals in 35 years of detecting here, so they're fairly rare. Just not very expensive in dug condition. I also flip them on eBay. Those are awesome, especially the 'A '79-er" with grizzly gun-toting miner and pack mule, surely that one is worth even more than $300? I know Leadville got going in the 1870s but what is the significance of 1879? Is that when the silver mining boom really took off? Was there a big rush of claim staking and new miners that year?

And thanks I think the stool is badass, most unique one I've ever seen (not that I've seen very many milking stools) and dripping with character. 499/500 were probably burned or junked 100+ years ago when they became obsolete.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I wanna buy a gold coin but I can get over 70 silver coins for the same price.

I wanna fill a chest with it but I feel like a need a 22k gold coin.

Some lacklustre blowjobs or thorough handjobs middle and bottom. Then whatever a groat is worth. Although that one is in excellent condition so I’d expect about 20 blowjobs for that one.

so far this is the cheapest i have seen for pure tin. the seller seems to run out and restock periodically so i snag them when i can
