Dude was a narc since his early warez-scene days in Germany. (ratted on every warez-site owner he knew of to save his own skin, his own lawyer later committed suicide after writing about it).

They raided him and his wife/kid left him I'm sure that was enough to many already to further teach him a lesson to not get too far out of line.
