What's it matter? The entire nature of normalcy and work ethic is rooted in industrial stagnation. Advancement was halted to the disadvantage of humanity as a whole. Look at how long machine model learning was shelved in its history before industries began to have a culture where it was more "acceptable". We could've automated everything by year 2000. If you have employees that stay after 5pm, they won't have anything to do.

They won't have any pending work, since that was already done in the previous days of staying after 5pm.

Most clients will go home after 5pm too, so your employees won't have anyone to attend to.

You now have these people that are doing little to nothing, and you still have to pay them an hourly wage and pay for the electricity.
